Other cars I have worked on used a clip and simple mechanism to hold the brake line to the strut, meaning you don't have to disconnect the brake line when doing work there. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see why I couldn't just cut out part of the strut brake line bracket and then use a clamp (in addition to the stock clip) to hold it in. Any thoughts?

I've finally got the brakes working besides the E-brake. I've adjusted it per the service manual by pulling it and letting the ratchet click into place. It doesn't ratchet any more and the E-brake still doesn't work. Is there some kind of adjuster underneath that I haven't spotted yet? I don't see anything in the service manual. Or is my cable just too stretched out and it's time for a new one? The car had it's E-brake on for a good year or two while the car was sitting before I bought it.

What's the narrowest stock wheel Datsun ever used? 72 FSM says 5 inch, but I don't have manuals earlier than that. Did they ever use anything narrower than 5 inches, or is that the narrowest?

after replacing the front steering rack bushings and upgrading the suspension i noticed the steering wheel was a few degrees off and figured it was time to check alignment. the z is amazingly simple to align, with the only adjustment necessary on the end of the tie rods. there may be other ways to get the toe angle correct (some folks use a rod or wire to measure the tires inside-inside at different locations) but i've always used a simple old-school setup that just requires some string and a rod. in case anyone is looking to do this, here's the process i used: get a rod or piece of wood that is a bit longer than the width of your tire spacing (outside to outside) …

Not exactly "free to a good home", but close. I have some vintage parts from a 1972 240Z that I am replacing with upgrades. Recently bought a very solid Z (HLS30-53473) from the original owner who took very good care of the car. I would prefer that these parts go to somone doing a restoration or wanting a vintage look. I have: Five original 14 x 5" steel wheels that were on the car about an hour before the original owner replaced them with slotted disc mags. Excellent condition, as new. Wheel from the spare doesn't even have hubcap marks. No hubcaps, unfortunately. Five vintage 14 x 6" US Indy slotted disc alloy wheels purchased 12/30/71 for $211.54 (I have the r…

Found a set of Appliance Wire Wheels on ebay and couldn't resist. Awaiting their arrival. The seller said the 14x6 wheels had a 4 x 112mm bolt pattern and included a picture of the roto-lugs in a box. I will probably replace the roto-lugs with eccentric washers made by Gorilla lugs, but I am curious about how roto-lugs were installed. Did they affect the wheel offset? BTW any hints and helps about the wire wheels would be appreciated.

I haven't been able to find out if there is a 14" rim rear disc brake conversion for a '78 280Z. It seems like all of the kits are for 15" rims or bigger. I'd like to keep the awful-but-stock hubcap setup I have now, but not sure if it's possible. Anyone know? Thanks!

I picked up the original spare to my early 74 260Z from the restoration shop yesterday. Base on appearances, the tire is in remarkable condition for a 40 year old tire. I don't see any dry rot or cracking. Silver stickers can be seen inside. I've owned this car since 1978. To the best of my recollection, the spare might have been used once for its intended purpose around 1980. Is it worth trying to sell with a disclaimer or is the liability too great? Your thoughts? Thanks, FixItMan

I am looking to run 23.5x10x15 track rubber on the old Z, essentially 255/15s. I have a ton of wheel options but don't have samples to test fit so I am wondering if these will fit under the fenders with a minimum amount of "rolling" the arches. There are lots of 15x10s available at a 4.5 inch backspace. Searching here says that a 10 inch 4.5 backspace is ideal. Here's what I'm looking at: Wheels and Parts, Wheels from Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop Anyone have good info on what to do here?
