The Fairlady Z left rear brake started making that "metal grinding noise" so I took the drums off both side. The shoes look great, all the hardware looks fine, no scoring on the drums ... any clue what might be making it off and on? Something gets in there perhaps, like a small rock or something? Are the rear drums interchangeable or is there a "right side drum" and a "left side drum?"

I have a 73 240z that is pretty much slammed (bought it that way). It is so low to the ground I can't even get a jack underneath it. The PO auto x it and my guess is that it has shortened struts. I want to actually raise the car 2 inches and I was wondering if I could accomplish this through a larger rim/tire. The car has zg flares and some xxrs with 215 50 15 tires on it. I would like to put a 17 inch rim but don't know what size tire and if it will actually raise the car. If not it looks like i will have to save up for some ground controls and matching shocks to raise it.

As part of my front suspension upgrade I will be doing a brake upgrade as well. My stock calipers are stucking and I will not be rebuilding them. If I choose to continue with them I will buy some reman. units. My car will not be raced, just enthusiastically driver around town and on cruises. Currently I have sitting on the parts shelf is all new SS braided lines F&R, new rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and hardware, a pair of new rebuilt 4-piston S12 calipers for use with my original solid rotors that have been turned. Also on the way is a new 15/16 brake MC for a 280zx. I have been told by a few members that using the solid rotors and 4-piston calipers is no…

Does anyone have these on their 240z? It looks like they make them in the right bolt pattern and offset, not sure about the bore size?

Any idea what size/type are the lugnuts that will work with the Minilite mag wheels, the ones that require the flat bottom to the nut with a flat washer? Are they 12mmx1.25 or is that just the stock 1971 240Z lugnut size? Mine are all rusted and I'd love to get another set of lug nuts. Thank you.

One of the rear wheel cylinders on my 77 280 was leaking a little so I bought rebuild kits for both sides. I've got kits from both Wagner and Tru-Torque, and the basic P/N is 96618. Pulled the pistons out of my wheel cylinder and pried off the old seals. Then I noticed that the hole in the center of the old seal is much larger than the hole in the new one and it would be an enormous stretch to fit one of the new ones onto the piston. Also, the new seal is thicker and doesn't fit the groove in the piston. I've got a set of old cylinders from a parts car and the pistons and seals in them are the same as what's in my car. In other words, I have the correct cylinders and pis…

I am pretty stoked! I have a friend who does all of my Porsche brake work. He is pretty well known amongst the Porsche and Ferrari guys. I have been getting a lot of pressure from my local Z friends to take my Z out on the track now that she is running but I like to go through the brakes first before I drive anything on the track or autocross... Shame to bend her up after all this work right... Anyway, back to Eric. I asked him if he would be interested in taking a look at restoring my Z brakes. Eric doesn't just rebuild. Pretty much anyone can do that. That means to simply make them serviceable. Eric RESTORES them. They look just as the factory intended them to look the…

In wanting to replace my calipers and brakes lines with SS units a previous owner did me the favor of rounding off almost every threaded line connection. So out came the vise grips and I was able to get everything apart. The problem is now the line connections need to be replaced. The hard lines for the front brakes are very small and dont offer very much room for cutting the lines, installing a new fitting, and flaring the end of the tube. I found the auction below and it seems to be a reasonable deal. What are your thoughts? I already know I will need to replace the hard lines going from the MC to the front wheels. I have not tackled the rears yet but from the look…

I'm (still) restoring a '71 240. There is a series of clips supporting the fuel and rear brake line, mounted to the driver's side of the transmission tunnel. My metal clips are still OK, but the rubber insulators are either missing or rotted. Any idea where I might find new ones, or am I better off just taking a sharp knife, a drill, an old hockey puck (or softer rubber if you can think of a source), and making new pieces? Thanks
