I have a 1976 280z w/ automatic transmission. I am the original owner. Recently my brakes got very hard. I could hardly stop the car. I drove home, parked the car over night. The next day I started the car up and the brakes went to the floor. I tried to pump them up and they still went to the floor. From my experiences and reading on the internet, hard brake problems are related to the brake master vac. Brakes going to the floor are related to the brake master cylinder. I removed the brake master cylinder and after inspection, thought I saw some brake fluid inside where the brake master vac plunger goes. Based on conversations with a mechanic friend and the price differen…

This is really more of an aesthetics question than a performance question. I need to put new tires on my new-to-me stock 71 240z. I have the stock (dealer option?) slotted alloy wheels on it. I want tires that "look good"... I know, I know: that's a subjective matter... So: If you have a stock-ish 240, especially with these wheels, please post up pictures and include the tire brand, model and size. I'd LOVE to see front and side shots... I'm not looking for race tires or anything exotic... THANK YOU! Mark

Hi, Trying to get a set of street wheels/tires to replace slotted mags/sticky Kumhos that came on the car we bought for my son last last month. Long story short, I have scanned forums posts looking for just the right move before I drop coin on a set of wheels and tires. I was instructed by me cousin who instructs/races a 240Z up in the SAC area to run 15x7 '0' offset with 225/50/15 for the street or even 16x7 '0' with 205/50/16. Our 1st choice would be Panasports, but our budget is leaving us with Konig Rewinds or Rota RB's. My son prefers the Rota's so I found some 15x7 w/Falken ZE-912 at VEX Motorsports today for $866 cash OTD(4-5ml spacers/mtd/bal etc). btw - car is …

Hello, I'm really looking for that vintage raw/race look on my 280z and I want to go with steel wheels on 15x7 wearing 205-60-15 tires. I have not seen a stock set of these with the lug patern for the z - does anyone know of any wheels like this? Ideally, I would love to use a set late 60s Alfa Romeo 1750, but the lug pattern is different. Thanks, Marco

Hi all. Does anyone run 7x15 et20 wheels, if so any issues or pics of how they look. I'm thinking of swapping my 8x15 et0 wheels for something thats not as wide.

I just replaced my calipers with some rebuilt ones from AZ. In each box there were 2 copper washers. They do not work with the mounting bolts (smaller diameter on washers). Does anyone know what these are for? My Z is an early 73. Perhaps they are used with other year models? Don

I am not one to boast about my car or anything for that matter. However, I thought I would make a thread in regards to my car with Watanabe wheels in hopes that it may spark interest in some members for these largely unknown wheels. First off, I chose these wheels as I really have a heart for the home market cars and style that many of them have. These wheels were very popular in Japan and were the wheel of choice for many Z's during the 1970's. They are still popular amoung enthusiasts in Japan and around the world today. You can look at them as the slot mags of the US, Aus, and UK of Japan. Someone told me that the very best dealerships in Japan sold Fairlady Z's…

Is a refurbished brake booster from a 280z at Orileys or Autozone a direct replacement for a early 240z with the smaller booster? Since I have everything out for paint I noticed the booster is very corrodid and seems to be the original. It may have been leaking, so i think it would be best to replace. Will there be a benefit to using the larger booster besides the fact I can not find the small early ones for as cheap?

Bought some 280zx wheels. Been working on a couple of them. Not an expert by any means. 2 are buffed 2 are not. I used an air angle grinder with a blue roloc disk to remove most of the aluminum ridges on the spokes, then just went at it with some buffs and rouge.

Hi All, The original aluminum brake drums on my '73 are no longer within spec, so I've ordered some steel replacements made by Centric. I hate the idea of seeing rusty drums so I want to paint or powdercoat them in a color that approximates the originals. I've been given a price of $60 each for powdercoating, which seems expensive considering that the drums only cost $24 each. Painting would be a lot cheaper but I don't know if the coating would last. Would I need high temp? Suggestions? Peter

I had to replace the master cylinder and one of the rear wheel cylinders on my 70 240. While bleeding the brakes everytime my wife pushed on the pedal the rear wheel cylinder moved fore and aft maybe a quarter of an inch..other side that i didn't replace did not do that. Is that normal, I am sure I got it back together correctly? Ward Fogelsanger in Gilbert, AZ
