Good Evening, The drums on my '72 240Z are worn beyond resurfacing and need to be replaced. I took this out of (not off of) a 240Z in a junk yard last week. (The aluminum drum I spent 45 minutes wrestling off was, alas, about 10 inches inside diameter -- or might as well have been.) The bolt pattern seems to fit and the Max. Dia. statement is the same as on my existing aluminum drums, indeed is in the same typeface as well. I admit utter confusion regarding stock drums. I've heard that stock were cast iron, with aluminum as after-market performance, and that stock was aluminum, and finally that stock was cast iron then switched early on to aluminum. So what am I loo…

I have looked at numerous threads on this site and others and just want to make sure I have all my parts before I start on this project. 1) 81-84 Maxima Caliper Brackets Nissan Part # 44155-04S10 a)Will these fit over my stub axles installed or do they need to be installed first? I have an appt. to have all my new seals and bearings installed on the rear so I don't want to do this twice. 2) Which year 280zx caliper do I need? I see all this talk about brakes being different 79-81 and then 82-83. I have an 83 turbo parts car. Can I use these rear calipers? This swap used 79-81 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?36414-My-260Z-build-%28Brake-upgrades-a…

So as the original owner of my 260Z, I purchased a new set of Appliance mesh wheels (14 x 6) shortly after I purchased the car sometime around 1976 or so. I have had them ever since and have done my best to keep them like new, but admittedly after 35+ years of use, they are beginning to show their age. Recently, I was also in need of a new set of tires for my car and contemplated moving to a more modern wheel where I would also have a much wider range of tire options, but in the interest of keeping the car period correct I decided to stay with the Appliances (which I do like the look of on my car) and live with the limited selection of tires that are available for this …

Well I've been wanting to get some nice Rota RB's but stylish wheels are not anywhere near the top of my priority list for my Z. However I'm going to definitely need new tires and I don't want to throw them on the black nasty stock rims, even with hubcaps... So I went to the all mighty craigslist! Picked these up for a bargain! They are 14x6's, two out of four caps but that's not a big deal for me as those are replaceable and not the important thing. They look straight and are in great condition (just dusty). First of all can anyone identify these wheels? One of the two caps says "Modern" and there is a symbol, I can get a better picture of it tomorrow after I clean …

Rewinds vs RBs 1 2

Nothing beats the look of some Panasports on a Z! However my wallet strongly disagrees... So I've narrowed my wheel search down to two wheels. Konig Rewinds, and Rota RB wheels. Money is an issue however I've found these wheels coming to the exact same price, so that is not going to effect my decision. Looks wise they are nearly identical, except the RB's spokes are a little more protruding and I think the RB's have a little bit more aggressive look, which I like. Since price is not an issue comparing these wheels, and I like the looks of both, performance is my real concern. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I had trouble finding any threads that actually had p…

I just got my car back together after a motor swap (1970 240z). Let me begin by saying my brakes worked fine last year when I parked the car. I had the front lines, MC, and booster out of the car for an engine bay repaint, and everything went back in when done. Now after re-assembly, the brakes are weak. High pedal effort is required for even moderate stopping power. The pedal is fairly hard without spongyness, but it does have longer travel, and there is less than half normal braking power when i push as hard as I can. In addition, the brake warning light on the dash comes on with anything more than light effort on the pedal, so basically anytime the pedal is depre…

I disassembled my front struts and spindles tonight. In the near future I plan on going with the Toyota 4x4 front calipers. Getting the backing plate phillips screws out was tough on 2 out of the 4 and 1 of those required a bit of heat to work loose. I sort of f'ed up the screws getting them out. Could I just go without the backing plates? Is there a safety issue with this? I don't plan on every driving the car in the rain, unless I get caught out. Thoughts?

car is a 76' 280z I'm looking to purchase some diamond racing wheels in the next week or two so im trying to figure out wheel size I was given a set of tires with the following measurements, they are brand new and i would like to keep them because they are the tire size i was looking for originally. Only problem is i need to find a wheel that fits them perfectly. I would like to fill out my ZG flares as well The cars ride height is stock. My body panels have been cut for flares already by the IPO, so having some poke is okay. Side note, the tires may seem a little thick to the herrafrush crowd, but i think the thicker tires look good on a Z car Fronts: 205 55 16 …

Hey guys almost done with this project. I like the Rota RB-R wheels chromium or flat black. I just finished painting the car 2005 Lambo Murcielago yellow. I want the car to look a bit aggressive. a little phat in the back. please help so when I order the wheels, I won't run into problems. I have been through a lot to get this far. I was thinking 17x8 in the rear and 16x7 in the front. you guys can tell me different option. I am seeing people pull back fenders and valence ect. I don't want to stall anymore. I just want to put the wheels and tires with no hassle. be advised that I did the wilwood 4 lug brake upgrade from that Arizona zcar guy. So callipers got to be cleared…

So i have been driving with an inherent issue for the last 3 months, and decided it is time to finally take care of it. Backstory: i was losing brake fluid, didnt know where it was going as there were no drips under the car, so i went forward and just replaced the master cylender (NOS) and bled the brakes figuring this would solve my problem. Present: The problem i am now having is that there isnt any pressure the first time the brakes are hit, but a quick pump and the pressure is there. I know my rear shoes need replacing, but i also have brand new rotors/pads up front. I am also still losing fluid, and i have to top it off everytime i fill up with gas. Could it be that…

:stupid:flipped a reman zx booster upside down in our 260Z 2+2 and there is a lot of pedal travel plus the vacuum drops and the idle will surge when applied. Will adjusting pedal correct this and keep the idle steady?

Tall tires

I have a set of the Shelby "Cal 500" 14x6" slotted wheels. They appear to be a zero offset, best I can tell. I'd like to try a tall tire to drop cruising rpm a bit. A set of 225/70/14 tires at 26.5" tall will run about 785 revs/mile (tirerack), vs about 840 revs/mile (guessed-can't find specs) or so for a 225/60/14, about a seven percent difference. On the tach it would represent about a 200 rpm drop at 3000. I made a cardboard section of a 225/70/14 from tirerack's specs and taped it to the rim. It seems to clear nicely with the car supported at the balljoint (suspension loaded), but I cannot force the spring into full compression to see what would happen at a bump. Anyo…
