Hiya. Yesterday i replaced old wheel cylinders and shoes. When drum on place i can hear slight dragging against it when rolling it. Cylinder adjusters are in min. position. Can it be that the drums are not round or is it common that new shoes drag for a while?

I am a long time autocrosser and Tire rack supporter. However, a new local tire shop, A Firestone opened up near me. So I brought the Z in for a new set of shoes, since mine were over 10 years old, and I just do not trust them. I installed a set of Bridgestone G019 grips. Not bad by any means, but not nearly sporty enough for my tastes. After talking with the owner he agreed to let me return them for something more sporty that would fit. All I have to pay is mounting and balancing (35 bucks). I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with the ability to talk and negotiate a deal that makes me happy. Its a little strange to get that kind of customer service. Tire rack ma…

Got rid of the new Michellins with the cracked sidewalls today. Went with the Sumitomo HTR 200's. I have to say my initial review of them is great. Nice and sticky, very, very quiet, soft and responsive. I took them up to 75 without any noticable vibration or noise. I will see if they remain the same after a few hundred miles. Now I just need to blast and powder coat the wheel centers. Going to get rid of the gold and go with black centers and chrome Z center caps.

the brakes in my 72 zed need repair. the other day all of a sudden i pushed on the brake pedal and i had to press all the way to the floor and the car slowed down. first thought are the rear wheel cylinders. i recall there are two different cylinders, an early and late for the 240. is that correct. my build date is 10/72.

I have a couple of old Shelby Wheel, Tire, and Accessories catalogs and I thought some of you might be interested in these, since several of the wheels were popular for the 240Z at the time. There are also a couple of other Z related accessories shown. Note the Sidwinder 6 slot wheels. I think there have been questions as to who made these. This is from a 1972 catalog and they indicate it was an exclusive design for Shelby at that time. Also note the 240Z side stripe kits. A later Wheel Application guide (dated around 1982) shows the AR Libre style wheels spelled Liebre. It is interesting that in the 1972 catalog, the Libre style wheels are called Vipers. I also inc…

I have read almost every thread about tires and wheels but there isn't a clear answer to my question.. Is 195/60/14 too narrow to run on the 14x7 appliance mesh wheel? I've seen a bunch of responses that indicate it may be best to run 205 or 215's but my car has been lowered with a new suspension kit by 1.5 inches all around. It's a 1/74 260Z so I am unsure of rubbing issues. I have 195/70/14's on an old set of mesh wheels but I think they are only 6 inches wide. A second question is in regard to those appliance wheels...I picked up the Eagle center caps as suggested in another thread but they don't seem to want to fit. Do they need added pressure to snap in or should…

This weekend I had some time on my hands, so I refinished all 5 of my D hubcaps. I used Mother's chrome polish on the Chrome. I used SEM Landau Black on the D inserts. I taped the actual chrome D and then used an exacto knife to trim the tape. I used Duplicolor wheel paint. First time I tried the green 3m tape. I like it, much better than the blue painters tape. Although you can't see, there are some minor surface scratches on the outer chrome, but I think they came out great. I only attached a picture of one of the hubcaps. I have three big tab and two small tab hubcaps. Nice to have one spare. This weekend I tackle refinishing the steel wheels. What's the co…

On a 240, what is the part called where the brake hard lines run into it from the master cylinder and then out to the rubber lines for the wheels? It also has a wire that runs from it to the washer pump. It is held on by one bolt and it looks like nothing more than a junction block. What is it called? Do they go bad? Can I just clean it up, paint it, and put it back on? If not, who sells them?

So, let me start off by saying I have a fair amount of brake experience for someone who's never worked on cars professionally - I adapted a later dual-channel master to my wife's '58 Olds including building my own pedal with the correct 6:1 ratio, fabricating the plate to change the mount position, building the actuating rod, etc. In the course of doing this, I did a LOT of brake bleeding. I'm now trying to fix my '72 240z. Over my tenure owning this car, the brakes have ALWAYS been the problem. In fact, the previous owner told me that they were his biggest problem and he was tired of messing with them. He did a bunch of hokey stuff, including bolting the rear whe…

Ok i recently bleed the brakes from my 72 and that made front brakes work. Yesterday i lifted car up and hit the brakes while rear wheels were spinning. No effect. So could this be problem in the pressure regulator in brake lines? My buddy was bleeding the rear and i think there were no brake fluid coming from bleed nipple, he's even more newbie than i so.. Is it possible that the brake pedal stiffnes is caused by the same problem? It barely moves when i press it with full power, before bleed it was movable (well the brakes didn't work then at all) As i said before, despite that brake pedal is almost impossible to move, front brakes work fine. Thanks already.
