Anyone know of good race compound pads for the rear discs on a 280ZX? Someone just asked me and I have no idea so I'm turning the to the most knowledgable group of Z peeps I know (errr...virtually know I guess...ya know virtual world, cyber space, etc...ok enough with the failed attempt at humor).

Hello again So at the moment both my rear drums need to be rebuilt as the wheel cylinders are leaking fluid quite badly. For just parts at the moment I'm looking at spending roughly $300 or so. So I'm wondering one thing. I've been told by a number of Z people I know (and have seen some posts here) that rear disks off later model ZX's fit 280z. How much would converting the rear drums into ZX disk brakes run me? I'm just looking for options as $75+ for a wheel cylinder is just a tad bit high in my opinion. Any advise or information would be wonderful. Jan

This is a car I got last year after the garage it was in burn.......... you don't want to see the picture of what was left. Anyway, I'm installing all the mecanical parts on my 240z and I was hesitating on those set of wheel. On the car, it had flare and 1 inch spacer on the wheel. Wheels are 15 inch. Don't remember the tire size... But it look like something is wrong........... is it the wheel that it too small? Tires too small for the flare........... or the red color? :stupid: Just want to know your opinio on this. Thanks, Joce

My recently-purchased '78 280Z has the OEM spare, but I didn't see any way to inflate it, and it looks crusty and old. I'm planning on using the car as a daily driver and I'd like to have a spare. I don't suppose new ones are available? Should I just throw a can of fix-a-flat into the well and call it a day? Thanks for any advice!

Yesterday I took my 280Z for a decent drive over some curvy and hilly terrain and was out for about an hour. Now, as I've been driving my car lately, the longer I drive it, the more noticeable a shrill squeal occurs, and, at the end of my ride yesterday, it was pretty much SCREAMING to a stop ( but stopping wasn't hindered. It stopped just fine ). I've paged through the FSM and found that between the caliper and pad there are little "anti-squeal shims" ( yes literally...the FSM says "anti-squeal shims"). When I removed the master vac from the fire wall there was no gasket between them, is there supposed to be? I'm ready to stick it back together and want to make sure. I can't seem to find one listed on the micro-fiche either.This applies to the clutch master cylinder as well. If there is no gasket I was thinking of using some gasket sealer. Thanks, H Houghton

Hello all I need both wheel cylinders for my rear drums. I was at MSA and found that there are a number a wheel cylinders that they sell. Is there a difference between the 75-76 280z wheel cylinder and 77-78 ones? There is a huge difference in price and I would like to know before I buy. Thanks Jan

I did some searching but not sure which avenue to persue. The brakes have been neglected for years, probably 10+ since last fluid change from the completely brown/black fluid that came out today. along with some particulate. The symptoms are that the pedal goes down about 3-4 inches without any reaction from the brakes, then it starts to brake during the last 2-3 inches of travel and will stop the car but you have to stand on the brakes. my calf actually hurt after driving for a few days to fix a carb problem. So should i look at the pushrod length and verify it is set correctly? do I have a booster or M/C problem? The car is my father in-laws that will eventually …
