I've purchased various parts and my panasports from Les Cannady and he is a superior vendor. Was in North San Diego county, (Carlsbad), on buisness yesterday. Turn's out one of my co-workers has a Z being restored in Les Cannady’s shop. So we took an early lunch and drove over to Classic Datsun in Vista, CA to see the status of his car. I think his 240 will be a real head-turner when complete... Les and Ed were very friendly and even took 20 minutes out of their day to chat with us. They really know Datsuns, vintage motorsports and their combined knowledge is amazing. If I had more money, I’d not hesitate to have Les and Ed restore a car for me. It was a re…

Just sitting here watching the Home and Garden Channel and saw Holmes on Homes laying down a pretty thick strip of fresh Tarmac in a drive way. Well it got me thinking how cool would that be to build a race track out of that very sticky, gooey black stuff. So say you won the lotto for $220 million and wanted a track for your Z and friends. What do think the cost would be to build a track in any configuration you like about the same land size and course length of Fuji Speedway in 3 months time. Just the land and the track, not the grand stands or all the media stuff. I'm thinking maybe $3 million dollars. ~ EDIT ~ Ok thats kind of a low ball so I'll say $6 million.

at lunch today I drove by an area where they were blocking off the right hand lane of a 4 lane road and had 2 cars pulled over. In front of the cars was a fold up ramp setup and they had the hood open on the first car. When I went back by the other direction 20 minutes later they had the car up on the ramps with its front wheels spinning and a cooling fan setup in front of the car like at the smog tests. Anyone heard anything about this? I wasn't driving my Z but my take is that being exempt from the bi-annual smog test in California doesn't mean they couldn't test it like that.

OMG...of course I want to be very politically correct and not have anything offensive on my car. I know the 'A' on my distributor stands for Advanced. I believe the 'R' stands for Retard. I will bet it is even in my manual. How many people has my distributor offended? I offer my sincerest appology for my cars behavior. Good Grief:sick: This whole Palin-Emanuel thing is unreal. Sorry, just had to vent

I came across these reproduction Amercian Racing Equipment Libre style wheels today. http://www.vtowheels.com/retro4.html Looks like they will be available soon in 14" and 15" versions that will fit the 240z. The 14" x 5.5" say they are expected in Feb 2010. Apparently you have to order through one of the dealers they supply. This one http://www.acmespeedshop.com/catalog_c371275.html lists the 8 spoke (panasport style) for $180 each, so I am guessing pricing for the Libre style would be similar. I wonder if they would consider making reproductions of the ARE LeMans wheels. -Mike

Not Z related, but doesn't everyone love a good duct tape story? During a private "fly-in" fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness, the chartered pilot and a fisherman left a cooler-box full of bait in the plane. Well a bear happen by and smelled it. This is what the bear did to the plane. The pilot used his radio and had another pilot bring him 2 new tires, 3 cases of duct tape, and a supply of sheet plastic. He patched the plane together, and FLEW IT HOME!

The biggest of the big auctions has started along with the coverage from the SPEED Channel. I happen to watch quiet a bit of the coverage every year, truly some amazing cars, rare and like nothing I will ever get to be around. I find some of the prices totally beyond reason and level of work and money that has gone into some of the restorations and modifications staggering. Many boards will light up this weekend as "thier" car goes across the block for a huge sum of money. Some say the coverage of the auction has driven up prices, making getting into collector cars more expensive, some say it has drawn more people to the hobby seeing all the high level cars. The early …

OK, my lease is coming up on my C230 Sport Sedan and time for a new daily driver. The options are: 1. 2010 Mercedes C300 - 228 hp / 6 speed manual / RWD 2. 2010 BMW 328i - 230 hp / 6 speed manual / RWD 3. 2009 Infinity G37X Sedan AWD Sport - 328 hp / 7 speed automatic 4. 2010 Subaru WRX STi Outlier was the Audi A5 with the 2.0T engine. Loved the test drive but the lease rates from Audi are idiotic, so no go. Some key considerations: - I live in Canada - RWD is not an impediment as I am a Canadian and I'm always shod in snow tires in the winter. - I'm performance oriented, but I'm a reasonably senior corporate guy (the Subaru is a bit of a square peg so to speak). Th…

My name is Billy Jarrell and I have been a member here since Feb. 2006. I lurked on this site and other Z car related sites for a while before that. One thing I've noticed is the the information on these forums has been invaluable to me and building/maintaining my Datsuns. I have been a Z car nut since before I could drive, my first car was a 75 280Z 2+2 I bought at age 15 for $750 and have owned 3 more since. I've been kicking an idea around with a friend of mine in publishing and he likes it so I'd like to hear your thoughts. I would like to collect all the tips, tricks, modifications, or any other specialized information that the factory service manuals or owners …

I would like to put in a plug for Motorsport Auto. I have had on three occasions ordered over the phone ,from NZ ,parts for my 240. After I got the time zone difference figured there was no problems. Speaking to the parts person was a breeze, after getting used to the different way of speach. The service was amazing with one item I ordered on Friday morning arriving following Monday Thumbs UP!!! :)
