In restoring the mustache bar for my 76 I removed the bushings.....however I did not just burn the rubber out and leave the metal insert, I bent the tangs back and punched out the entire bushing, and basically left the metal insert pretty wasted in getting it out. I purchased the G machine urethane bushing set from VB pn 88-717..THe kit require you to leave the bushin metal insert in the mustache bar and just remove the rubber. Can I just cut new insertd out of a piece of hollow round stock and insert? I can;t imagine anyone having a good set of the original inserts unless they were pressed out.

Hello Group. I don't post often but I follow discussions on this forum daily. I have a restored to factory specs 71 series 1 Z and have done everything seen in this forum to solve my cars warm disposition. The latest, which had a large impact on the gage reading, was to correct the gage reading by adding 5 ohms of resistance in series with the heat sensor. I used Joseph Demers article in the summer 2003 Sports Z mag to validate and correct the gage. Instead of physically taking out the gage and risking breaking it by moving the needle as he suggested, I used a correcting resistance at the heat sensor. anyway, my thought and question to all. With the close proximity …

I have pulled myself out of the Z hunt for a few months. Thought I would do better to concentrate on paying my truck off first, plus it has been raining here in the East non-stop since March. I think my '02 Tacoma is in danger of rusting from all the rain . Anyway, The truck is paid for, and I got a real nice set of wheels and tires on it, which brings me to where I wanted to be on it. So, it is time to start looking for my Z again. I happened on a '75 280 that is pretty local to me. It's yellow, so I have to give it a closer look. The price ain't too bad and the owner says that he has not found any rust on the car. Granted, I know there is some to be found on it…

Last week I failed inspection at our DMV. They failed me for emmissions the first time through, then in the recheck lane (I tried leaning out my carbs and going back through), they failed me for emmissions AND sound. Here's my results: 1st try: HC (ppm): 636 @ idle, limit 600 CO %: 7.58 @ idle, limit 6% For the first run, I was very nearly out of gas, so I went to the gas station, put in one gallon, and added a bottle of STP gas treatment (which I now realize was a bad move), then leaned out my carbs by one turn, went to get rechecked, and got these results: HC (ppm): 734 @ idle, limit 600 CO %: 3.92 @ idle, limit 6% sound: 96.7db @ 2500rpm, limit 96.5db . So I fi…

After some helpful discussion here I may look at replacing the engine in my 240z rather than rebuilding the original ( put that one on the backburner for when I'm retired!!) Anybody know of a good source for rebuilt or secondhand L28 (tuned or standard) engines in UK? Many thanks

Well finally I figured out I'm screwed. Bought my 75-280 off ebay and it said 90K original miles. Paid full "buy it now" price cause it was low miles !! Have had it a few months, and although it is now running well after lots of tuneup work, its still burning oil and making smoke. Have changed valve stem seals, etc. no change ! Finally contacted original owner and lo and behold, actual milage is 190K. Contacted ebay seller, advised him of the mistake in advertisement, no response. (imthepappy) Contacted ebay. Since seller cancelled auction early to sell to me (due to a timing fluke and as a favor ) they (ebay) won't post a negative feedback on the seller.…

Answering a post a fer minutes ago I had a thought. If a l20 is an l28 with 2 cylinders chopped off and a 350 will drop right in a Z and a 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off will it fit in a 510?

I found this on ebay and I don't really think the person selling this photo knows what they are talking about because they do not mention that it is a Z. I was just wondering if anyone knew what rally this was and if there was any history on this car. Great looking rally Z though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3241160502&category=14893&rd=1 Regards, Ben
