This is a 1970 240Z that I will be going to see soon--hopefully. The current owner has only had it since May last year. I was wondering if this car came from any members here that might be able to shed some light on its condition. The VIN is HLS3005505 and is in the Raleigh area. Here is a pic of it to refresh memory.

Will the wheels from the '84 300 fit onto a '73 / '74 Z? I am concerned about the offset? Also, while I'm in the subject what else is useful off of that car? Thanks, Bri

I am a new 240Z owner. I have a running motor and auto trans from a 1971 Z that I want to sell. I realize that it is hard to say what a motor is worth without seeing it but could someone give me an idea of what it might be worth?? It runs well, and has 130,000 original miles on it.

My 1972 240Z finally got here from california. The body is in pretty good shape, with no detectable rust (except under the battery tray, but the previous owner says it has been there for a very long time) and found no bondo while checking with a refridgerator magnet. I have a few problems though: I don't have an owners manual yet, and when I checked the oil, it was extremely low! The treaded part of the dipstick wasnt even oiled up when I pulled it out, and the oil that was on the tip of the dipstick was pretty dark in appearance. I plan to change the oil tommorow before I even THINK about driving it anywhere else, and I need to know how many quarts of oil it takes, and …

what would cause my 240 to die at speed. it does this frequently, i have a new alternator, battery, voltage regulator. when it happens, ususally i can crank it up again and drive on, and sometimes it will die again. could it be the carbs?, fuel pump? also when it happens, it usually is just the engine that dies not the power ( the radio and lights are still on). i don't drive very it often because of this. it started doing this 2 months ago.

I'd like to get some opinions from as many as possible regarding idle rpms. All of you Z enthusiasts out there may have a slightly different theory on correct idle rpms specifically related to the 240 model years. As we all know the manufacturer recomended 650rpms was the the proper setting for idle speed. The manual I believe noted 650 along with the original sticker on the air filter housing. If I'm not mistaken the sticker on the inside of the hood said 750 and about everyone I speak with sets there idle 800-900 to alleviate the "bounce" of the engine at idle. Can I get your thoughts on this and does a higher idle make the car run hotter, use more fuel or is there any …

Maybe one of you guys can help me with this.... When I accelerate hard in third I have some serious hesitation at around 3000rpm's. Once I've broken through the 3000 it goes away. Also this only happens in third(I have a 73 4-speed). If any of you guys might have a guess as to what is causing this to happen I'd love to hear what you may think it is. Thanks.

This is a little off topic, but what do guys (and gals) think of the new Chrysler Crossfire? I think it's got some interesting lines. A sports car that doesn't look like the TT, 350z, Mazda 6.... They even designed in a small cargo area in the rear that houses two racing helmets if your feeling a little friskie. I like the looks better in certain angles than others but overall I like it. I would reserve final judgement until I see one in person but so far...Interesting. http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/concept/xfire.htm

I was browsing through 240 stuff on E-bay and came upon this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33710&item=2401625672&rd=1 It's true the stock headlights (which I still use) are dim by today's standards, but there's something about them I really like. I'm not sure what it is, maybe the dim yellowish tint, or they way they reflect in the rear of the car in front of me. Anyway, are these good replacements? The thing that bothers me is that the profile is flat and not domed like the stock lights, so I'm worried they won't look right.

Just thought I'd throw this out for discussion. We all know that rust is the overriding and everpresent threat to all z's. From what I've read the general concensus of the people doing restorations is that you should remove all undercoatings, tarmats etc; cut out any seriously rusted metal and weld in new panels (which I agree with); and then apply the POR-15 treatment to as much of the car as you can afford. It's the last step that I'm having trouble with. As I understand it, POR-15 is a multi-step process (sort of like AA for cars ), and is rather expensive, particularly when dealing with exchange rates. Ignoring the cost issues (difficult for those of Scottish ba…
