Sorry this isn't a specific Z question but I think it's a good genereal one to ask. I'm wondering if there is a rule of thumb for what the auction purchase price of a vehicle might be relative to a trade-in value for a car at a dealer. For clarification - if I take a car into a dealer and get $20,000 in trade value what would that same vehicle go for at an auction, roughly. Is it the same, a few thousand less...? I'm looking at buying a used car that was puchased by a dealer through auction and I'm trying to figure what the dealer has into that vehicle. Another question - What is a reasonable profit for a dealer? Is it 2%-3% over their cost or 5%, 10%? I really …

Okay I was just wanting the benefit of others experience ... how common is it for the speedometer driven gear to go bad. After a tranny change five years ago (car had been parked since then, only used occasional weekends, now it is a daily driver so I need to get everything in working order again ... at least that's what the cop who pulled me over for speeding said) Anyway ... after the change, the speedometer no longer worked, I've put vice grips on the end of the cable (tranny side obviously) and spun it, the gauge jumps, so I am assuming it is not the gauge, and anyway the gauge was fine before the change. I had also pulled the cable out and lubricated it, it's not the…

Buy a 240?

I'm thinking very seriously of buying a 240 to turn into a dedicated track car (kept streetable, for a little while anyway), and I can't seem to find a good FAQ on the slight differences between model years. For sentimental reasons I would greatly prefer a 73, but this isn't an absolute since I will be building a race car, and all I really need is a frame and body. So is there a good reason why I should or shouldn't be looking for a 73? Also, what would be the hot engine to swap in, if I'm going to stay with a Z engine. Should I keep the 240 and build it? I see a ton of people build up 280s and swap them. Why is this? Is it an ultimate power issue, or a weight issue?…

Does anyone have any recommendations for a competent machine shop in Colorado or Albuquerque NM areas? I live in SW Colorado(Durango), so the closer the better. Thanks.

I can't find my previous thread so I'll ask question again. My 1973 240z was stored for 20 years and the rubber on all grease boots has turned to tar. Where can I find replacements?

The time has come to switch over the flat-tops to a set of round tops.... Here's the question: What is different regarding the linkage set up ? Can I use the existing firewall set up? I've been told that the only linkage difference is the between the carbs... Help!! Thanks everyone!!

There is a vary bad virus going around that is addressed to you from a friend and it starts with WTC or has that in the heading . It will be from one of your friends that has been infected. Dont open it , WTC stands for world trade center , what the virus does is attack the hard drive and dumps everything on all drives and sends a message to all address in your address book. So when they open the e-mail they are infected also. You wont even be able to start your computer if infected. I just got word of it and wanted to pass it on to as many people as possable. Good luck Always remember 9/11 Someone stated that this is not true . If that is the case I am sorry if I …

And no, this is not like a "near" miss. Which to me is kinda like "giant shrimp". ANYWAY, after replacing the intake / exhaust gasket on the 260 motor (L28/N42 combo, triple mikunis, cam, hemisphereical pistons, bored, polished / ported head, header bla,bla,bla...) I get a slight, quick "pop" of a backfire at around 2k on the tach... Lean miss? I'v checked all the nutz and they are tight. Done the spray test vacumn leak thing and found nuthin'.... The good news is that I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO ADJUST THE MIKUNIS. sorry, didn't mean to yell :stupid: Suggestions??????? Thanks all! Hope your Friday the 13th was well.... Bri

Was just catching some HOT Neck-car action on SPEEDVISION. One of the only two real NASCAR races per season. It's so funny to see these guys navigate Watkins Glen! It's like these great, soft slugs or station wagons or something wallowing over the hills and around curves. They use EVERY POSSIBLE inch of the track. Still, it beats left, left, left, left...... steve77
