This has always perplexed me. What exactly causes the "Z roar"? I've read on some webpages that this is due to the fan clutch, but nothing I've read has really determined this with any certainty. Of course I'm referring to that unique almost whining sound that 280ZXs make (Do other models do this as well? I really don't know, hehe, but I do remember that the fairlady 300's don't do it). The car has always made that sound as far back as I can remember. Very unique and very cool, I think, but I'm just wondering what causes it. Anyone know?

Hey well, I'm new here. Anyway, I finally got my Z running again! That thing is about as old as I am and still runs great. 20 years old and the a/c still works, amazing! My dad has been the single owner of it the whole time, and I really don't want to leave the original fabric exposed. So, I am in need of some seat covers. Could someone give me some suggestions as to what brand of seat covers fit nicely? Thanks!

I have been spending alot of time at the carshows around here. In talking with other ppl (street rod ppl) they have nothing but respect and fun storys about the 240s they have had or run. This says alot about the car for these are hard ppl to get respect from with A import. I would also like to say if you are looking into doing up A early Z go to some shows and talk about it. You will find alot of these ppl know lots of proven tricks there happy to share with you.

What is the correct compression ratio range for an Lseries engine running unleaded gas in the 85 - 87 octane range? I have an L26 with the dual SU's.

Okay, this may be a dumb question but I'm wondering if the L-series engine can be turbo'd or supercharged? I'm curious as my car has started to emit a lot more visible exhaust than I can recently remember. I'm wondering if I have blown a piston ring or something because I distinctly remember it running pretty clean not to long ago (like last week). I got on it pretty good the other day playing with a rice burner out of a turn lane and since then I've been noticably smoking. There's no new noises coming from the engine compartment just a lot more visible exhaust. Anyway, if I do have something internal that needs or warrants a rebuild:classic: I though about getting s…

I've always loved old-school imports, and I've seen a few Z's for sale around here that are really cheap. Thing is, I want to know about possible maintainance woes I'll have. I'm not planning on swapping in a V8 or anything, so the engine has to be fairly solid. Basically, what sort of things should I look for when I go shopping for these? Do they have limited-slip differentials?
