Hi. My name is Jeff. Married for the 2nd time, one daughter, one step son. Bought my first 72 in 1975. White with red interior. Had it repainted to mimic Bob Sharp's. Also had Bob Sharp's suspension with Datsun competition headers. Had to junk it, Cleveland weather ate it up. Bought another 72 in Arizona in 1988. Originally from Hawaii. Brown metallic with butterscotch interior. I am in the process of restifying it. Had the front fenders sandblasted and stripped the inner fender whells. No rust! Will use POR-15 this weekend to seal for life(?). Looking for a 280 engine and 5 speed. Have the rear suspension apart and getting ready to have sand blasted. Used this car for au…

Does anyone know if the 240Z engine is a non-interference engine? In other words, if the timing chain breaks, no damage will occur between the valves and pistons.

I tore down my 4 screw SU carbs, cleaned the components, replaced the needles, gaskets, etc. reassembled and reinstalled. When I put the 20W oil in the dampner cylinder, there seemed to be alot of resistance to needle movement. I decided to experiment with various fluids and came to the conclusion that brake fluid seems to provide the best needle movement, without backfire. Has anyone else used DOT3 brake fluid?

I would like your guys opinions on electric fuel pumps in early Z's. I have a Stewart Warner pump and a Holly fuel pressure regulator that i'm thinking of putting in. I'm thinking that it would provide easyer starts and perhaps slightly better performance, any thoughts?.

i was told by a friend that a RB26DETT would bolt right into one of the Z cars.... i think it was the 280z, i forget which. he said that you wouldnt have to make custom engine mounts or tranny mounts. is this true ?? if it is, how much would restoring (est. $) the car and making the rear end (along w/the rest of the car) able to handle atleast 350 - 450 hp cost ?? Btw, is it worth it, or should i just get a R32 GTR, S13 w/SR or a S14 w/SR ?? what to do what to do?!?!

That smiley face is fake because NOW that I have forgotten the spindle for another day, I fire up the motor, give it a little rev after it ran for a bit and NOW I can hear a tapping from the lifter area. Not your normal lifter noise but louder, wasn't there last time it ran, NOW it is. Any advice? And still, happy Easter. I think the bunny hates me.

Does mikuni still make a carb setup for the Z? Also would 3.1L running between 10 /10.5 to 1 compression with SU and SM needles be a good setup? (Carb flow and run on 93 octane gas?) Thanx

I searched the forums here for a good long while and couldn't find much info in the way of a decent tire that would fit my stock 14x5 " hubcapped wheels... just a lot of gripeing about how nobody makes a good 14" tire anymore So I found these Sumitomo HTR200's ... it looks like people like them, and there was a lot of great feedback about some of their other high-performance tires, so I decided to try them. I'm getting them put on Friday morning, but since I really haven't been able to drive my Z much since I got it last week (I haven't been able to register her yet, and the tires that are on her look to be at least 15 years old i.e. Sears Sport Treads, all cracked and …

Ok, pass me the whiskey. I am having a problem getting the spindles out of the Traverse link to switch over my strut assembly. The shop manual simply says to "remove the spindle" by sliding it out. Yea, sure slide it out, NO PROBLEM. And yes, I did remove the outer lock nuts and the lock bolt from the middle and I can't get this thing to budge for love nor money. Before I make the execfutive decision to drink myself to death over this , can anyone help? And by the way happy Easter.

In the original 72 240Z maintenance manual, it is stated that the SU carb idle adjust nut be turned until the top stop position is reached. Then the nut should be backed off three turns. Then the nut on both carbs should be adjusted 1/8th turn at a time until the 2-1/2 turn position is reached. Does this jibe with other member understandings?
