I'm new to this board and was offered an opportunity to have a 79' 280z for free... its totally rusted to the bone and I was wondering if it is still restorable (reasonable to restore something this rusted)... I was thinking of taking it as a 3-5year project with a 5grand budget each year... I want to make it a daily driver so that it’s reliable and also make it an auto-x car... I want to keep the engine if I can. And pretty much restore as much as I can and fabricate anything that I can't; say like the dash. Lastly, are there any Philly, South Philly, and SOUTH NJ people on this board? I would like to attend any meets that you would hold in the area...

My number three piston committed suicide, so I got to tear the whole engine apart for a rebuild. I got the head done (along with everything else), got things going back together but the cam looks a little advanced. Not more than a tooth. I did the whole TDC and shiny link thing so I assume it's right, but it just doesn't look right. I turned the engine by hand, nothing hits anything else. I'm not far enough along to see if it will fire ( just need cap, wires and plugs) Gettin' kinda nervous about cranking the starter without knowing if things are in time. I am not looking forward to tearing the front of the engine off again. Anyway, does anyone know how the lobes (#1 ) sh…

This may be of interest to any San Francisco bay area Z owners or would-be owners. (no semi-pro recyclers or commercial entities please). I have a 72/73? 240Z that needs to be rescued. It was a daily driver until parked a few years ago where it has subsequently languished in silence (NOT BY ME), it was running fine at the time. during this time it has had the back window recently broken, but of greater concern is that it had some vandalism in the form of a small interior fire in the center console area. The seats aren't burnt, the center lower dash (middle area) is somewhat melted as are some of the guage faces, but this is not a burnt out shell. It is stock with a smal…

I love the new Blue Chrome option for the site, Mike. Way cool! Really jazzes things up a little.

I am trying to see if there is enough interest up here in the Dakota's to form a Z-Club. I live in Mandan, ND and am interested in starting a club, but I need to see if the interst is great enough to start one up and then join the ZCCA. So, all of you fellow Dakota Z lovers contact me and let's get this thing rolling. Dave

Hi all, Does anyone have a good source to set up checking accounts for car-clubs? I'm interested in finding a bank that won't require an assumed business name.

Last Feb. I bought a '71 Z with the intention of rebuilding it with a modded turbo motor and such. Then in May I was given a wonderful gift: A race car. Ok, it's not a Z (BMW >2002tii), but it's a race car non-the-less. BUT, I can't afford both the race car and the extra Z (I have another one I'm keeping). So I've been trying to sell it, without many calls. I bought it for $1k, with a bunch of extra parts like PERFECT interior panels, seats, and dash. Plus doors, hatch, and some misc. lights and other parts. The left front is lightly damaged, but I have a new hood, fender, and headlight bucket to fix it. The hood and fender are still in thier boxes. There is some lig…

Hello Everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I found this site on a web search and it looks like a great place. I have what I believe is a 73 auto trans. (could be mistaken) Its been in the family for about that time. My sister is the original family owner. I drove it in college for a few years then it sat dormant for quite a few after that. A couple of years ago, I began restoration by just general cleaning in the engine compartment. All the while I was looking for a cause and solution to the problem I used to have while driving in college, OVERHEATING. The body needs a little work but its not too bad. Im about to get some new tires and possibly rims (or maybe restor…
