1977 280z with 280zx distributor installed. When engine is at TDC, the distributor has already swept past the #1 spark post. At TDC note the angle of the spindle tang that engages the distributor.

I am rebuilding carbs and did the dreaded "Loosen the 19mm jet lock nut" without realizing it was a bit of trial and error to realign: (Well the secret is to push the jet up into a lowered needle while slowly <s>turning</s> twisting the 19mm along its axis [like screwing on a bottle cap rather than wrenching. If you know about the "T" handled socket for turbo rebuilding then you know what I mean..nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more... What's it like?]). So tonight, even though I aligned the jet by the above method, I decided I would try to find/make/invent a tool at the ACE hardware store. Plan A My first idea was to find a screw that would fi…

I picked up a self-sticking rubber stair tread from ACE Hardware, cut it to size, and stuck it to the top of the powder coated tank:

Just got this product from Honda for my S2000 softop's rubber seals. It is great. It refreshes and protects the rubber but does not leave a greasy mess (after a day or two). To apply just put some on a shop rag and rub into the seal and that is all. I like it way better than the silicon sprays that I used in the past. Honda Part Number: 08798-9013

Wheel well Frame Repair One of the common rust areas on the 240Z is in the front wheel wells just aft of the torsion rod fitting on the frame. There is a doubler / stiffener spot welded to the inner wheel well that traps water between the two pieces of metal and rusts from the inside out. When I first looked at the wheel well I saw this image: As I started cleaning the inner fender well getting ready to repaint and seal the fender well. I find that the doubler had failed and was eaten away from the inside. Leaving a mess that looks like this: I will not repeat the next thoughts that went through my mind. You can fill those in for yourself. After a few minutes and…

Here is a guide to what you can expect if you plan to convert from fuel injection to early (round-top) SU carbs. My particular experience with this is a bit unusual - my early '71 240Z had been converted (rather poorly) to fuel injection when a prior owner had an '83 L28 installed. Rather than de-bug the injection installation, I decided to go back to carbs. But this guide will also be applicable to installing round-tops on any injected 280Z (or even ZX). Basic parts list - one pair round-top SUs, center linkage, pair of manifolds (including the balance tube with linkage), heat shield, return springs, fuel pump or regulator, fuel filter, fuel rail, air cleaner(s), choke c…

Restoring A Rearview mirror?…Yeah, RIGHT! At first glance, you might agree that it looks as if it is a hopeless cause. Not only does it look difficult to disassemble, but what about finding parts? The mirror was available as an assembly, and Nissan has never listed any of its parts individually.. Is it any surprise that most folks opt out for a new one? Since the supply of perfect shape mirrors is slowly being depleted and some of them are close to impossible to find, it becomes a no-brainer to see that someone will decide to either “make-doâ€ or live with a crappy mirror. If you can find them, here are your choices: 1) New IKI brand mirrors are still available …
