Now's our chance to be heard. Maybe this time....we can only hope there will be a change California Bill to Exempt Pre-1983 Vehicles from Emissions Inspections Introduced Legislation (A.B. 210) has been introduced to exempt motor vehicles prior to the 1983 model year from emissions inspection requirement. Current law requires the biennial testing of all 1976 and newer model-year vehicles. The bill awaits consideration by the Assembly Transportation Committee. The cover story in the March Classic Motorsports is “Buy These Cars Now”, and among the 5 up-and-comers is the “economical” 240z in contrast to the “astronomical” Toyota 2000GT. ”How about the Japanese sports car designed for American markets — the one that, thanks to Peter Brock’s BRE team, instantly became an SCCA champion? Yes, we’re talking about the Datsun 240Z. Both Hagerty and Bring a Trailer seem to agree that an early, best-of-the-best-of-the-best 240Z is now worth around $50,000, but many are still trading for tens of thousands less. Our advice here: Buy the cleanest 1970-73 car that you can find.”

I just completed the honda wiper motor upgrade thanks to Zs-ondabrain (knowledge base article) and to and to brandenz (atlanticz tech tip). My restoration is a 1973 240z. When I tore it down there was no boot/bag covering the original wiper motor. I believe you can buy the boot from Banzai for about $70. I also found someone quoting a Nissan part number 28836E4100. I do not know if this number is the real deal. Normal Nissan sites do not recognize this number, but I did find the following: https://parts.bayridgenissan.com/p/Nissan__/COVER---MOTOR/51241601/28836E4100.html. This is a dealer in Brooklyn, NY. Again, there is no image on their site and I do not know if…

I have a 1973 240z that I am restoring. I am trying to re-install the factory electric antenna. It does work. Attached are two photos. The first attempts to show the mounting hardware in the order that I believe the various pieces should be assembled. I tried to show what is above and what is below the quarter panel. The second photo is of the assembled pieces. I believe that I have all of the pieces above the quarter panel. I have two questions: Am I missing any pieces? Just below the quarter panel I have what I believe is a grounding ring. It has prongs that are bent upward to contact the panel when everything is tightened. There is…

While digging through my pile of parts, I found that I did not have a good outside mirror. So I decided to try and see if I could bring one of the damaged mirrors back to life. I picked one that had a major crease on the backside and a couple of small dents. Using a hammer and a blunt chisel I was able to open up the outer fold that holds the mirror in place enough to get the mirror apart. After some hammer and dolly work, a file to knock down the high spots it started to look OK. Some sanding, a bunch of power buffing and polishing and it looks good. Slowly folding the lip back over the mirror with a body hammer and it is ready to use.

Beginning buildup of my '72 240Z and a F54 / P90a with triple carbs...looking at notches for injectors and choices for manifold gaskets. I've seen lots of gaskets that follow the outline of the notches and another one that covers the notch. Seems to me that for better airflow I should block the notch with the full circle style gasket. Recommendations? Also wondering if some have welded the notches up and grind as necessary.

Has anyone checked their antifreeze cold weather protection level lately? When I lived in Northern Wisconsin, it was an annual fall ritual. Seeing -70º wind chill temperatures in the midwest this morning reminded me of the "good old days" of getting up in the middle of the night to start the car and let it run for a while to assure it would start in the morning. Stay warm! Dennis

Hello! I just joined the forum, as I'm looking to get a First Gen Z-car. I'm relatively new to this car, and would like to learn as much as I can so I know what I'm doing once I buy one. I have a few question: First, what (in your opinion) is the best year to get? To me, older is better, so I'd rather have a 240z than a 280z, but I know they are getting hard to find... Also, I don't like emission regulations (it's just another part that will fail). Second, how reliable are they? I know rust is a big problem. But do the L24, L26 or L28 have any major problems? What about the transmission? I want a manual, hopefully a 5-speed, though I'm not sure they were offered…
