I sure can use some advice here. I bought a low miles '71 a couple of years ago. I think the odometer is accurate at 60k miles. Its mostly original except the transmission is a type B 4 speed. It has been a great car. It is a Sunday afternoon fair weather car. I store it in a heated garage. It doesn't see rain and I put probably 500 miles on it per year. Parts are becoming scarce and I ran across another '71 shell with a boat load of parts so I bought it. The shell is in better shape than the '73 I owned in '79 and better than the '72 I owned in '87. The driver side floor has a golf ball sized hole in it.. One rocker and two rear quarters need replaced. Spare t…

The FSM cites 4 possible alternators on a '77 280Z (a 40amp, 50amp, and 2 60amps), but I cannot find any external markings on my unit, which I believe to be original. So, I am wondering how I can tell which unit is installed. I would appreciate some enlightenment. Thanks.

Well, my choke knob gave up the ghost after 40+ years of being yanked on. It snapped just above the set screw. I saw that the '72-73 know was NLA but a new '70-71 was still available, different symbole, but I figured it would still fit. No such luck, the hole in the knob that fits over the metal tang is too small. Has anyone tride to modigy the knob to fit? The hole seems to be deep enough but either the width or the bredth of the hole would need to be filed to enlarge the hole to fit. My worry is that it needs to be a tight fit so as not to wobble, the set screw seems to do little more than hold the knob in place. Has anyone tried this? Any advice? Than…

What's the trick? ZX fan is deeper to keep off the radiator I have, '77, '78 3 row. Do I need a ZX fan clutch to get the clearance? The ZX fan has an extra blade that has to help pull more air. Thanks to anybody that has figured this out for a reply. I'm stumped and not feeling too FAN-tastic.

I took my 1971 Series 1 auto out for a drive the other day, and the brakes felt soft. The pedal needed to be pressed down all the way to brake. I pulled the reservoir cap off and the one closest to the firewall had almost no fluid. Does this suggest it needs a rebuild, or time to replace? I cannot find leaked fluid anywhere. If a rebuild or replacement is necessary, can anyone suggest a reasonably priced replacement? Thanks!

Got some grinding noise coming from the front of the engine...pull the belt off, grab the w/p pulley...sure enugh, its as loose as a $20 ho.(figure of speech-I wouldn know) removing the w/p is a simple job..5 bolts right....well not so much, first off the right hand side 8mm bolt will not budge, here comes the fire torch, finally after a few tries without setting the car on fire here it comes, now it all unscrewed yet not loose at all and will not come out.vise grips, hammers, crow bars....nada, it's just sticking out about an inch, k, time for the big guns, removed the rest of the bolts, loosened the pump and used the pump body as a prying point for my 4 foot crowb…

I was able to take my 75 280z out for a test run with the 81 ZX 5speed today. Wow is all I can say, what a difference. I have the 3.54 diff and find it a very nice match up with the tall 5th (.75). I was concerned that the taller 1st may be a problem but it was a non issue, can barely tell the difference when starting off. From there its only better. The gears seem better suited in all traffic conditions, and when I was on the open road I put into 5th and was going 75mph at about 2600 rpm, 80 was about 3000. Prior to this 80 was 4000 (60 was 3000, 70 @3500). The car seemed much quieter and perfectly happy with the load (credit the torque of the L-28). Needless to say I a…

I just bought an early car out of a salvage auction in Miami. It's always a little bit of a gamble when you do that. The car appears to have been recently painted so I took a chance they didn't spend money for paint on a rusty pig. Well guess what?! They painted a rusty pig!!!! It's number 7848...the lowest number I've ever owned. Now I need to decide what to do with it. I really don't want another huge project right now. I am also trying to figure out which of the early parts are missing. I know the following: Vented hatch and vertical defroster glass is missing Early steering wheel is missing 20 mph speedo is there No badges on the qtrs - missin…
