I have been contemplating a trans swap, well that involved removing the exhaust, which I have managed to break two of the 3 down pipe nuts on the studs. figuring I will need to remove the exhaust manifold to repair, I decided to tackle removing the various bolts that hold the intake/exhaust on. I assume both should come off since again I assume it will need a new gasket there as well. I PB blasted and smacked the 4 intake nuts and the one easy to get at exhaust nut with a 1/2 ext and a BFH to shock them, then used a 14 and 12 mm box to remove. so far so good, after backing them completely out I replaced with some anti-seize compound snug. Was curious about the u…

My aluminum three row doesn't have a draincock installed (???). Rather than pulling the lower radiator hose every time, and making a mess, I'd like to install a draincock. I figure this will involve drilling / tapping which is fine, but I foresee tiny shards of aluminum making their way downstream. Suggestions?

This is probably a stupid easy question for you guys. But I'm new to owning a 280z. I have a 78 by the way. My question is I'm unfamiliar with how the gas gauge is supposed to operate. I know it's a float unit and I've never owned a car with one before. Mine for example right now is on just above slightly a half a tank. But while I'm driving or even sitting still it moves a little, not much, just sometimes it's a half, then maybe a few seconds later it's just above a half slightly where it finally rests. When I drive it seems to go up when I stop etc. Is this normal, and due to the float, or should the gauge be still always and not have a lot of movement.?? I…

I've been gathering bumpers for the last couple of weeks to be re-chrome for my son's 1970 240Z project car. I picked the best we had in storage until I realized the front bumper was for a '73 model because the bumperettes are closer together compared to the earlier ones, which are further apart. To my understanding the front bumpers for 1970 - 72 are the same? . The other spares we had just wasn't gonna cut it so we went out for another hunt. I called a friend and said he has one in excellent condition he could sell, to my excitement we drove over right away. Upon arrival to take a closer at the bumper, it didn't have the bumperettes and the side rubber guards a…

I having a 3L L28 stroker built for for 280Z. It has a 5 speed that was installed by original owner almost from new. I still have the original 4 speed and driveshaft. I am looking for a a reliable shop to go through this trans prior to mating up with new engine. This trans has been rebuilt once back in the 1980's. Can anyone recommend a shop in western Michigan that can handle this project? I'm hoping Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids area.

Just like the title says show off all the different types of front ends that go on our early z cars! I am interested in seeing what's out there so I can buy a new style for my 9/71 240! Thanks and here mine that came on my ride when I bought it. Also let us know where to get it and what it's called if you can! I'm about to take mine off and just roll around with no lower till I find the One. What are your thought on rolling around without the lower part? Should I be worried. Out anything?? I've searched through the forum looking for a thread that gives a step by step on removing the dash. I've seen them all on how to restore the dash, but no good detail on getting the dash out. I've never removed a dash from a car and have seen enough comments that it can be done in a day, mark all your wires, bag all the parts, etc. I have the Datsun service manual and it has the dash out in 8 easy steps?!? The Restore your Datsun Z car doesn't have details either. If anyone that has done this and could list a few bullets like, start with the steering column, move to X, then to Y, I would greatly appreciate your input! Thanks!!

I have a new set of fuel injection plugs for my 280z's wiring harness. The wires leading up to each plug look the same so my assumption is it doesn't matter what side of the plug they are attached to? If someone could comment I would appreciate it.
