I found this interesting map light that I would like to install in my Z. According to the seller, it's an "optional item found on later S-30s and fits in the center of the forward roof panel between the sun visors". I cannot find any references online. Has anyone seen this light? Kats, Greg, any other JDM specialists out there?

Well it looks like I'll be pulling the pan next week. I have a pretty good leak that I made worse by tightening down on the pans bolts. Hopefully I didn't go to far as to "dimple" around the bolt holes. I plan to jack all four corners as high as I can get them off the garage floor, so I can fit my beer belly under there . Drain oil, of course, letting it drain overnight. I read somewhere to set timing about 90 degrees before or after TDC. It's supposed to set the front crank counter weights up in the block allowing the pan to drop easier. We'll see. I ordered the competition gasket from MSA. They said I can put it on dry, no sealant. Anyone else use this style gasket? It'…

The search for a new to me Z seems to be an exercise in futility here in the mid-atlantic area. Not many come up for sale and the ones that do seem overpriced. I want a car that I can drive right away and tinker with a little, but not have to do a restoration. I've looked at cars priced in the low 20's expecting that these would be well sorted and need very little. Wrong! I've found poorly concealed rust in this price range, too. It seems that with the rise in value, people are painting any rusty piece of crap they can find to make a quick buck. Blatant shoddy work is everywhere, regardless of price range. In my frustration I started widening my search and dis…

I will soon be making a trip to Oregon to pick up my Z for a 250 mile trailer adventure. Unfortunately there's snow in the forecast, so, it might not be as soon as I want. Anyway, I've already found a few threads on this subject, but, nothing explains the proper procedures to do this correctly. Do any of you have photos or advice for the trip? I'm planning to rent a U-Haul car-hauler. Here's one of the threads I found: I did see a few tips: Nose first Use the provided tire-straps in the front Cross brace the rear end with ratchet tie-downs I'm a bit concerned there will be some gravel on the road so I'm not too excited about win…

Anyone got some oldie but goodie pictures of their early Z's? Mine was purchased in 1970....silver on black until it was tailgated in Atlanta. Great memories then....and now!

Hi All, just wanted to solicit a few opinions on what I perceive as a recent trend that has been developing due to the rise of market value of the 1st series Z. I have been noticing that there has been a wider acceptance of the 240Z by both the media and high end collector/investor as a bonafide collector vehicle. I believe that we will see serious sophisticated buyers in larger numbers insert themselves into the Z community, thus driving both recognition and price of the 240Z to a much higher plane. Many of us who watch and participate in the collector market have seen this happen very quickly with other vehicles. Early Datsun sedans/trucks, Porsche 911's 912's…

I've got a spare fuel tank from a '77. I've had it for a while and been meaning to restore it. It was pretty ugly from sitting for who knows how long but salvageable. Last summer I had it hot tanked to get rid of the crud inside and after being in the hot tank for 3-4 days, I was getting ready to POR 15 the inside. It turns out that both the return and feed lines inside the tank were clogged. I tried running different gauge wires down the lines with no success. CLR, Acid couldn't get in far enough to get to the blockage. Air compressor didn't work either. I had to put the project on hold. Now I'm back at it. I cut a hole in the top of the tank for easier acce…

Does anyone know if the internals from 240Z Nikki and Kyosandenki pumps, particularly diaphragms, will swap? It might help expand rebuild options is why I ask. Thanks!

Remington Firearms is marketing their new re-engineered R51 9mm pistol in various gun magazines. What caught my attention is, the add features a view from a car's rear view mirror, the text suggests automobile breakdown, and continues with something about this guy stopping behind you is not here to help you which is why you need their product. What I found strange was, the car in the rear view mirror looks like a very nice 240Z. That would not have been my car of choice to suggest "danger." Just my two cents. I'll drop a line to them and ask why they chose that car.
