I don't get this at all. The seller took a bunch of junk engine parts with no internals and built an engine to sell. With two days left on the auction, it is at $1350. There are a few salvageable parts, but who would pay this much for common scrap parts? The seller doesn't hide what is being sold. It is clearly stated that the parts were destined for the dumpster. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/datsun-nissan-l28/ From the seller.. for everyone wondering, the reason this is a display motor is because its a collection of parts that weren’t useable cores. We build a fair number of L-series motors in the shop and I couldn’t stomach tossing the parts in…

Complete engine overhaul. Stock build L24/e88. First start this weekend. 10w30 dino oil, engine fired up, held revs 1500-2k for about 30 min shut down and let cool. Noted a small amount of blue smoke. Restarted fine tuned timing, carbs etc. and blue smoke continued and got worse. Called engine guy. He thought the rings weren't seated. Said to run hotter 180-200 for an hour then shutdown, let cool. Lots of smoke. Engine seems to run well and no noises. Just smokes. Coolant is fine, engine runs with gauge right in the middle. Builder came by today checked plugs, compression and valve train. He isnt an SU guy, but really thinks the issue is too much fuel. Wet bl…

Hey guys, surfing the web today I stumbled on two different recent incidents where guys 280z’s caught on fire. This is almost never a concern on a new car but older cars have a much higher probability. I keep a fire extinguisher in my car for good reason but was wondering if a fuel cutoff switch would be a good idea. It could serve two purposes. Both an anti theft device and a way to shutdown fuel to the engine immediately if there was a secondary failure. Not sure if it worth it or not. Only found one post on the subject on the forum that was posted in 2007.

Now that the record snowfall in northern Utah has melted in the valleys the shows have started. Typically I have the only Datsun flanked by Detroit steel. Plenty of folks are interested in the car, had one in years gone by or had a friend with one, but these are very rarely seen in this neck of the woods due to massive amounts of salt used on the roads in the winter. Something about being right next to the Great Salt Lake makes salt readily available. Here I am again as the lone Z car... More of the show here... Can anyone tell me the bolt size that goes through the lower joint of the steering shaft where it attaches to the steering rack? Is it supposed to be a shoulder bolt or just a standard bolt? Also, what size and thread? Car is a 76 280z if that matters. Thanks

Greetings all, Finally got my 204z out of the garage, and took it for a drive. Car is running pretty good, but when I got out the timing light, I had to retard the timing and loosen the little 8mm nut on the distributor to get the timing marks to get to 10deg. TDC. Seems odd. It seems like the distributor is usually at "O" when I did timing before. I did mess with the oil pump over the winter, and I thought I had the distributor drive at the "11:25" position. So, could I have it off one tooth? Will it run ok if the timing is off one tooth as long as the distributor is retarded? The car is a series one with stock distributor with electronic ignition. Any ad…

Hi folks-I got my Z out this morning for a drive, and had a strange experience. car started the drive exactly as expected, with gauge readings exactly as expected. about 15 minutes in, I turned the fan on. almost immediately, my alternator gauge jumped from middle-ish to peg all the way to the right. car started to stumble, and stalled out. i had to keep my revs in the 2k range to get to my location without stalling out more. turning the fan off, it crept back towards middle point, SLOWLY. got to my destination. 2 hours later, i left(no fan on this time). alternator gauge looked normal-ish at first, but then started to get jittery, and be in the 13-14V range. had some mor…

I bought an early 240 a few years ago (a 6/70). One thing led to another and much of the underneath side needed replaced. Both frame rails and both floor pans. It is still at the body shop. The underneath side of the car looks fantastic. I think it will look factory after painting. My car is in the final stages of metal work and priming will begin by the end of the week. The early cars did not have any undercoating. My body shop is strongly encouraging me to have them apply "raptor". Apparently, it is clear and they would add color tint to match the paint work. They describe it as a thin layer of bedliner type coating. It will match the paint almost exactly. …

Looking for a little help with the proper location (which cable goes to which lever) and proper routing for the heater control panel cables. Mine were all removed by the PO.

Came across some spray bars being used in a pretty sophisticated modern engine. About 5:05 in the video if it doesn't load right.

My Z seems to be running rich. I have swapped in the SU rebuilt carb set and adjusted as best I know how with the unisyn tool and mixer adjustment on the bottom.
