so i finally got the new seals for the tail lights and found new bolts and washers. the problem was the acorn nuts in the housings were rusted, and a few were even missing. so here is my repair. new 3/16" stainless screws, fender-washers (3/4" OD) and ny-lock nuts. and a dremel with a cut off wheel and the other tool. i bought 1 extra nut to do the dirty work here is the housing after cutting the plastic to get the old acorn nuts out now for the dirty part. find a 3/16 screw and another nut to lock everything together, clamp it in a pair of vice-grips as shown above, and heat that nut up until it just starts to glo…

I'm trying to get back to the correct parts on a 2/71 production date 240Z ... are these below stock or have they been replaced? I have run across some things that appear to be series 1 ... maybe leftovers as 2/71 was the first month of series 2, right? Also, I've never seen the stickers like there are on the window ... they look like they say "Japan" in white with a faded red background and a faded red circle (Japanese flag?) Thanks for any help. --Thomas

So I decided to start a thread to keep track of my mild build and to share my experiences and such 25th of august a longtime dream came true. I often wrote on my blog "one day I will...". I do fantasize about a S30 for at least 10 years now. And the 25th was the day, I got myself a Datsun 240Z. It was imported from the US to Europe in 2011. It is a 1973 model, and I love it! On the second try I managed to pass technical inspections and got the car registered. Thanks again Eric for borrowing me the stock-ish wheels. Till now I did a tune up (spark plugs and wires; distributor cap, finger, points and condensator; ignition coil and ballast; fuel pump). Soon I wi…

Have finally decided to part with my little lady. She's hot, sexy, and dressed to kill. She is unique....truly one of a kind. And now, she's going to sell to the highest bidder. Am attaching a link to the ebay listing below. Also, for fun, am going to offer a $100. chrome plating credit to the forum member who comes the closest to guessing the actual final bid amount before the auction ends on Monday. In order to qualify, your estimate must be posted no later than midnight PDT on Sunday. Since many of you seem to have a knack for estimating value, this is a chance to actually earn something for your fun. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-Coupe-/291847187…

Hi, I'm having issues with my 1978 Datsun 260z. It's been sitting for 5 years during welding repairs and what not. Managed to get it to pass an MOT today but it's back firing and stuttering and generally doesn't pull well at all. The carbs are hs6's from a Volvo which the po installed. I've installed an xr700 electronic ignition kit and a ps90 coil. New plugs and leads. New fuel line and filters. Changed the su needles and jets and float valves and springs. The float levels aren't adjustable. Fuel bowls have been 3/4 full when I've checked them. I've set the timing to 10btdc with vacuum advance connected and it does advance when I blip the throttle. Checked for vacuum lea…

Hello everyone! I just bought a Z from a really nice guy in Texas. The car doesn't appear to have too much rust, but the front radiator support got hit by accident and bent in. It also curved the frame rail just by the radiator a little bit. I got the car today. Found some flare by factory and a few other stuff. The fuel system is not working but engine turns freely. I am planning on keep dig through the car to see what other problems I have. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club

Anyone have any idea how many different suppliers made 240Z mechanical fuel pumps? I ask as I have been preparing to rebuild or possibly replace my original pump, and I'm finding that there appear to have been several OE manufacturers. These days, the new OE-style pumps seem to be made by 'Kyosan Denki'. But my original says 'Nikki', while a spare top cover I received says 'Ampco'. Any others I've missed?

Hello Everyone: Mr. Shigeru Nagata (retired Nissan employee) wanted to provide a little more information related to Nissan’s use of full size clay models, in the Design Development Department starting in 1961. Mr. Nagata was assigned to assist Mr. Goertz as a translator, during Mr. Goertz time at Nissan. He was also responsible for the Design Development Departments implementation of the US FMVSS related to Interior Design. Mr. Nagata wrote a 9 page article, in English that he wanted to share with the American Z Car Enthusiasts. Toward that end I have added it to the Z Car Home Page, along with more introductory information about Mr. Nagata. I think everyo…

I was sitting at a stoplight a few minutes ago in my 240Z VIN #907 and heard a horn beep, looked over in the right lane and was asked if I wanted to sell the car. I remembered his car, I had pulled out in traffic just before him and pulled away a little. He asked if I wanted to sell it and I was reluctant but then asked how much and he offered $8,000. When I didn't seem interested he offered $11,000. I told him the car was special I would keep it. First stoplight auction I have been to. I have been driving this car in the summer over here on the West cost of California for various errands. Fun car to own.
