Sorry for not having been around for a while. Well my beloved 75 Z is sold and on her way to the South of France. A collector saw her for sale on E-Bay and we came to a satisfactory deal. I hated to see her go after all the blood(literally) sweat and tears plus a few screams of frustration that was put into her over the past 3 years. I have to thank lots of people on this site for assisting me in the rebuild, I could not have done it without your kind assistance all the responses to me sometimes repeated questions. Thank you all again and who knows, I may be back with another one in the future. Mike

Curious event yesterday. I was asked by my paint/body man to show my 280Z to a "friend" of his. I accepted and they showed up at my house at 3pm. The "friend" was Slick Humphries of the Discovery Channel's "Highway to Sell" series and owner of Slick's Garage. He's been a s30 fan forever (turns out his first car was 260Z and owns a similar car at this time) and wants to feature a Z project on his show. My 280Z is already "done" but he would like to use it on the show nonetheless. He mentioned what all of us already know: classic lines, iconic Japanese car, reliability, relatively low cost to own and restore, etc. and emphasized that interest for our cars is peaking and …

I am sure this has come up before. I was taking the Z out on a road worthiness test (75 mph plus for extended time), when I got to my destination I could hear a chipping sound that came from the front of the car but did not sound like the engine. I popped the hood and it stopped. Closing the hood would let it start again. I Sherlocked it to something with the hood fitment from that. I could then see the hood had some noticeable vibration on one side near the back. Adjusted the rubber bumper using a dollar bill to test for contact and all good. Next up I noticed the water temp dropping and then becoming erratic, found the temp sending unit stud socket that had been replace…

Hi, I red the other thread about 1969 car and it made me think about HLS30-00007. We recently have found very early L-series engined cars have Z432 bolt on the air cleaner. But this red car on the brochure does not have it. Also we have found very Early cars do not have a clamp for a master vac hose, but this red car does have it. I think if this red car is HLS30-00007, something should be cleared. What do you think of this? kats PS : also a green car from the brochure, this car does have a carpet on the rear deck. And without a hand- throttle. The red car too, without a hand-throttle. About a carpet, it could be installed before the photo mission. A hand-throttl…

Hi everyone, I'm refinishing some TOPY wheels soon, and I have an ORIGINAL unused TOPY wheel that even has the original tire and finish. Unscathed. It's in perfect condition. Now, I know the "D" emblem wheel covers are different in colour. They are more "metallic / graphite" in colour. However, I see that there are a number of listings for the paint for said wheel covers being sold as identical in colour to the taillight finisher/garnishes. I have two refinished sets of taillight finishers/garnishes, both look to be done by two different people, but the colour is very close to one another. However, I also have two sets of unfinished sets, and one is fr…

For some time I felt I wanted to update the safety aspect of the 280Z by making the front fender side marker lights function additionally as turn signals along with the front turn signals on the grille. Since I didn't want to experiment with my stock lights I purchased a set of marker lights from Thailand on Ebay. The quality of the metal case was surprisingly good, much like (or perhaps better than) the Datsun part. I pulled it apart and removed the 1156 socket, widened the resulting opening to accept a GM 1157 socket which snapped into place and sealed the joint with black silicone. I did have to lift the front end of the car in order to remove the fende…

Spent the day with one of my 71 240z mistresses! Finally made the move to pull the dash with intentions of either sending it out to be reskined or do the repairs myself. Managed to get all the gauges out of the dash with no issues except one! Unable to pull the mileage reset cable down through the dash skeleton. Was able to remove the reset cable from the back of the speedo by removing the set screw but am unable to pull it down through dash sheet metal hole. The feral is just a smidge to large to go down and through. Would appreciate any advice on how to pull that cable through. I can only see cutting it but really don't want to do that. I would add additional pho…
