Had a great day Sunday with my 1972 Lemon Lime 240Z at the Misslewood Concours d'Elegance in Beverly, MA. She took Best in Class at a very prestigious show. This is great news for us 240's owners as the Datsun name and mark are starting to get noticed. Considering the quality of cars that were in attendance this is huge. Jeff Mader

I've been thinking about what if I have to put out an engine fire. First is to open the hood. Ugh, the thought of sticking my hand into flames to free the latch makes me uneasy. Has there been any discussion about having a fire retardent glove or two available for this job? If not, what do you all think of this idea? Thank you...

the driver's side door on my car has been progressively making more noise and visibly shaking on the latch when closed and encountering any sort of bump in the road. when closing the door i no longer get the definitive thump that i do from the passenger side, yet i can't see any mechanical differences between the two latches. both lock and go through their range of motion quite smoothly. the passenger side closes, latches and sounds totally normal. if my window is down and my arm is out the window(i.e. downward weight/force on the door) the movement of the door persists, but if i keep my arm inside(on the armrest) and apply outward/lateral pressure all symptoms disapp…

One of the body shops I am interviewing for my '73 has this '76 sitting in the back. Abandoned by the owner who never paid for the work. Roof cave in from an avalanche off the shop roof. Bummer.

I finally took some time and timed my newly rebuilt 2.4. I initially had set the idle timing to 10 degrees and noticed it would flatten out around 5,000 RPM so I knew I had some more tuning to do. So today, a month later, I took some vacuum readings and actually used the $100 dial back timing light I got for Christmas. My results, 17 hgs of ported vacuum at 2,500, off the front carb's vacuum advance hose. Good I think. Set the static/idle to 17 degrees at 800 RPM then ran the dial back function up to 34, it's digital, and set the RPM to 2,500 and shot the pulley. Dead on 0, TDC mark on the pulley. Went for a drive, ran great. A brand new Corvette w…

I made a very frustrating discovery this weekend. I've been working hard to get my 280z to the point where I could fire the engine. Saturday was the day. I managed to download my ignition parameters to my XDi2 pretty easily which was a treat since I was expecting it to be difficult. So I put power to the fuel pump and couldn't get any pressure. That was not an area I was expecting trouble. After a lot of cussing and some trial and error I found that the fuel pickup from the tank was plugged. Man did a light go off in my head! I had to do a LOT of work on that tank including patching it and lining it. Should've blown out the pickups before the liner dried... So m…

I have been chasing very minor leaks around the gas tank. The final one was a loose clamp at the output of the aftermarket (skinny) fuel pump. it had those slotted hose clamps by the PO, so I put on some proper FI style. I had already done all the hose clamp under the hood, but did not notice these. The other leaks were at the sending unit O ring (cracked) and the last was at the drain plug. The plugs washer was in bad shape. I did not have a proper fitting replacement, so I had temp used an o ring. That was not really idea so while calibrating the fuel sender (tank was drained) I came up with a tight fitting o ring that also fits the ID of a fibre washer. The captured o …

I've been away for quite awhile as I sold my 71 Racing Green 240z about 3 years ago and I've been regretting it since. Last week I was perusing Craigslist and found a car local to me that I went and checked out. Needless to say, it's an AMAZING Garage/Barn find!!! Been parked under cover in the same garage since 1997. 2nd owner since 1975 and the seller knows the original owner. Paint is completely original, interior is completely original, as is everything else except the owner put on some weber downdrafts shortly before parking it. ZERO rust and in amazing condition. I am so stoked and can't wait to get her home cleaned up and running again. It's a Lime Yellow '…

During the Branson Z Fest, Zup, Jim (S30Driver), and I spent a lot of time talking about everything under the sun as it related to cars and especially Z's. Unfortunately, it was more like under the rain as we had a lot of bad weather during the festival and therefore even more time to talk about everything related to cars. In any case, one topic that came up during discussion was jump starting our Z's during those times when you happened to have left your lights on, etc and in the course of that discussion I told my new found Z colleagues about this ultra portable jump starter that I had recently purchased. Zup and Jim had not seen one before and so after seeing mi…

Am I supposed to be able to shift through the gears on an automatic 76 280z with the car off, no key, brake pedal not pressed? All of my other automatics had a lock that prevented shifting without the foot on the brake, key in ignition. Is this normal or do I have something amiss?
