Why, why, why? $60+ for a simple OEM gas cap for a 1972 240Z! My after market locking one is 10 years old & really hard to open now. Can't seem to find another locking one at all. Any source for the locking type now? Photo is what I have now with locking mechanism sticking to where I’m worried the key will break.

I recently got 2 z cars and I'm looking for some acurate values on both to help me decide which will hold more value after being fully restored. Car 1 is an all original 71 240z (minus the added body kit) low rust and complete car. It has bad paint and surface rust. Factory a.c. and factory automatic. Car 2 is a 73 240z all original(minus a new head and 4barrel carb swap) absolutely 0 rust. Missing a few small things like the original mirrors, rims and carpet. I can't load any pics but both cars have already begun to get the body work cherried out and mechanical is next. I'm really just not sure what kind of value the 71 Will have due to being the auto…

Hello, I am getting ready to install a set of SU's on my car. All the stuff I read about making adjustments by turning X-Number of "Flats" has me asking this. I don't have an adjustment knob with "Flats", I have a knurled adjustment knob with a little bump on it which I believe is to help identify the number of turns you've made. I have no problem turning it and counting etc, but I would like to know why mine is like this. It is on a set of 4 screws. I searched with terms like "SU" + "Flats", if anyone can point me to a thread I will happily read it, I couldn't bring it up. Thank you, -Brian

when i first got my z the kids asked if they would be able to drive it (i have 5: 14, 15, 16, 18, 20) and i told my (then) 18 yr old he could take it to the prom. he was the star of the show that year, when the pictures came back all the girls wanted a shot next to the car in their fancy dresses and the boys put on their best James Bond rental tux suave... that was a couple years back and the next one (now 18) just took the z to his senior prom this past weekend - boy was he happy to go pick up his date! each time i see one of my sons drive off it takes me right back to high school and how a cool car was everything.

while driving around yester day on a rainy day (1st time since I got the z I took out in the rain) if was able to find a leak at the rubber seal near both corners. You could see the water leak around the glass (its not a tight fit on the glass). I presume the correct fix is to remove the rubber gasket by cutting form the inside, remove the windshield, remove the stainless trim, the strip off the old rubber and replace with one of the 50$ gaskets found on line. a few questions: anyone in Orlando area know of a GOOD place to have this done. is this something that I can do (I am pretty good at working with tools and have patience) would using a sealant (b…

Somebody was talking about coolant gushing out of the hose in their engine bay, can't remember the thread. Here's what you do with some rubber, chair leg stoppers would be the best, I think Mr Jim Arnett showed me that on a plug for the air filter. I used pieces of hose before I read his suggestion. Passenger's footwell on the left or the right side of the transmission hump.

Hi all, I used to be a member here, but had to sign up again since I was unable to recall my login after 2 years... anyway... I threw a rod and put a hole in the block 2 or 3 years ago. 76 280z, auto trans. Sourced a used 78 or 79 L28 motor. I have a few misc. questions that I have been unable to find answers for utilizing searches: Where do these smaller heat shields go? There are 2 of them that are nearly identical, and they are not the ones under the intake. (See photo) I have 3 vacuum lines bundled together coming from the firewall, passenger side (asssuming HVAC). Do these go to the vacuum tank can (white bottle)? Anyone have good…

I've had problems with the driver side door locking me out ever since I got RedBird. Last week it got worse, and would not lock using key to secure RB when leaving her. That made it impossible for me to go anywhere, I do not leave her unlocked. Plus, the alignment of the door was such that it would not completely close. My neighbor, who happens to be the one who painted RB at the body shop, came over Saturday to look at it. He pulled the whole door locking mechanism apart looking for the problem. What he found was the tiny spring tensioner was broken, and only a tiny piece was left. And that is the problem. But he fiddled and lubricated ev…

I have a 70 build, 71 titled Series 1 car with the original 4-speed manual. The transmission needs a rebuild and I am looking for a good rebuild kit. Does anybody have suggestions for a good one? I would like quality over price, but price is a consideration. I have no desire to swap out the tranny for a 5-speed. Before I get flamed, I did search on this topic, but the posts I found were much older and the marketplace could have changed. Thanks in advance.

is there any way to determine if the engine is correct for the car by the engine id number if the tag is missing. i guess what i mean is, for example, would car #'s hls3025000 through hls3026000 have engine # xxxxx through xxxxx? im trying to be fairly certain that my car has the original engine, but there is no tag. did nissan use these engines in other cars or just the Z's? thanks all sb

Hi everyone: I'm verifying that the scuff plate is installed in this manner: over the vinyl seam cover so it buts up against the door weather strip. Howard 1974 260z
