So I was travelling northbound on I-95 at 10:30 am Saturday (moderate traffic) about 70 MPH when upon pressing the brake pedal was surprised by no action at all. The pedal went all the way down to the floor! Slowed the car down by downshifting and applying the handbrake and very fortunately was able to get off the interstate and park in a gas station. A bit scared to say the least. Popped the hood and found the forward reservoir totally empty, the rear reservoir was full, the drivers side rear wheel (on the inside) covered in brake fluid. Once I removed the wheel I found scrapes and a tiny perforation on the solid brake line angle close to the junction to the bra…

Well, it may be March in WI. but it was almost 64 degrees here in the north. So, today I rolled one of the 71's out on skates and starting working on dropping the fuel tank out. Once the tank was finally out I examined all the 40 plus year old grommets which are extremely brittle. I wanted to ask if someone could direct me where to track down all the grommets from firewall, floor pan, emission hoses, wiring grommets etc.? Thanks all in advance, newtonhubcap

While I had the choke assembly disassembled from my 7'70 240z to deal with a sticky choke issue I started to measure and model the parts as an exercise while I had some free time. It got me thinking that others might be doing the same with other parts and might like to share stories and maybe a few cad files or just to show off what you are working on. I am a mechanical designer and use Solid Edge as my primary 3D solid modeling tool, I am also learning Solid Works and have a background with 2D AutoCAD. Here is a sample of the work I have done so far, comments welcomed from cad and non-cad users alike. If we get to the point of sharing cad files…

I have my cracked dash out while I replace my heater core. In my basement I have an uncracked dash. The problem is that my garage is not insulated or heated so I'm a little concerned about wrecking the good dash. Please let me know what you think. On a side note I found some interesting repairs done prior to my getting the car 18 years ago, Cheers, Scot

Hi guys, I have a 71 z with a 3.1 stroker f54 block. my radiator is a Motorsport auto 3 row copper. I want to use the stock metal fan shroud that I have. I have collected several different fans and noticed that the fan clutch attachment points are diffrent depths on the fan. My question, what year of fans set further back from the radiator. I want to buy a new fan and know that there are differences over the years. thanks for amy information . rex

It looks like I will be transplanting my LFX into a Miata and selling my Series I to finance the project. Then the mishap occurred. While parking the Z into the garage, a piece of lumber fell against the passenger front fender above and behind the wheel opening and jammed itself against the wall. The resulting dent is easily repairable but will require repainting. While discussing the repair at the body shop, I happened to pull out a photo of a BRE tribute paint scheme I had once considered. Since I am going to repaint the fender, hood and door anyway....... The question posed is would the tribute paint scheme enhance the salability of a Series I matchin…

anyone know if itˊs possible to find an original 5 speed 240z gearbox here in europe? And if itˊs worth the extra overdrive? currently my US 4 speed wonˊt go much faster than 100 mph, and by then my revs are to high, not nice for highway driving. I feel the car has enough power, but lacking more gears.. iˊd be more better for the engine and fuel economy if I had an extrfa gear. Iˊd rather not put 280zx gearbox on it, but keep it original.

I had driven RedBird to Dalton yesterday to run a few errands. On the way home, I had 2 more stops. She died at each of them, and was not anxious to re start again. But within a few minutes she did. Then I was thinking, she has driven so perfectly since the change of the AFM plus the timing light used on her, what was the difference? Then, it came to me, she had less than a half tank of gas in her on the way home yesterday. Plus, incidentally, during all the time she was being worked on, she never had more than 5 gallons in her. I'm wondering if that could be a part of her stalling problems? Hmmm... So, onward, I needed to go back to town today, for a similar run…

I have tried just about every rattle can clear coat spray there is to try and seal up bare aluminum and keep it looking good, sofar all of them have turned yellow, sticky or flake off. Power coat clear and anodizing are great but expensive and I hate to pay someone else to do my stuff. I think I am getting close to a solution, these two products are what I'm testing at the moment, http://www.por15.com/GLISTEN-PC_p_45.html http://www.sharkhide.com/mpinfo.html Both are very different but look very promising. I have made up some test pieces of cast aluminum, sheet aluminum and bare polished steel and over the next few months will throw a number of different enviro…
