As soon as the temperature gets into the mid 70s my Z will start acting up. If I sit at a light for a couple minutes or park for 5-10 minutes it will start and idle just fine but as soon as I try to go it will cut out and buck and jerk along. Once I get moving at 30 mph or so for around 10 seconds it usually smooths back out. I have replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one, added a fan shroud to the radiator. The temperature gauge sits right at the middle, except when going 70+ on the freeway when it moves just a bit to the right of middle. When it is hot and off if I spin the fan by hand it will go about a quarter turn (about the same …

Well I am so pleased with all the work I did last year on the Z I decided to have some fun with her. She has never run so well and feel so good as she does right now. As a celebration I decided to have some fun with my gal. I ordered some static racing roundies and plan to take it form there to make her into a 70's race car for a summer. Go to some shows and see some reactions. Here is where I am so far. Next up I want to get some new wheels and get them powercoated entirely matt grey (14x7 rewinds maybe because I cannot even find watanabe's) Then I will probably get the hood wrappe…

I wanted to start a thread where people can discuss the latest value information on our beloved Z cars. I attended Barrett Jackson auto auction on Saturday and only saw one Datsun sale - a 1500 Roadster which sold for $22K. Link below. There were lots of old Toyota Land Cruisers which were selling for between $20K to $50K. Prices on the usual 50's and 60's Detroit Iron were all over the map. Most of the really nice cars clearly sold for less than their restoration costs, which makes car restoration a labor of love and not logic. But most of us knew that already! Impressions were that prices were down. Last year Ron Pratte sold his entire collection of premium classic cars…

I've been looking at pictures and scratching my head over this. Maybe someone can solves the puzzle for me... I think everybody knows that the design of the S30's moustache bar (MB) was changed from the original 'flat' version to a new 'curved' version at the beginning of MY-72. This was part of the re-design done by Nissan to re-locate the diff further to the rear so that the halfshafts would no longer need to operate at a 5 degree fore-aft angle. The 71 and 72 FSM's both use the same diagram of the Diff/Rear Suspension (see below). It shows the MB mounted with its end loops sitting on the front side of the bar. The MB is shaped so that it 'droops'…

A few months ago I picked up a correct non-flapper air cleaner that needs a full restoration. Once done I would like to affix the correct decals to it. I know several vendors offer these decals but I just received a set from a vendor and they were not the silver Mylar material that the originals seem to be made of. The one I received is a dull gray vinyl and the seller is already working with me to refund my money. My question is, where have you guys bought your decals recently and what is your opinion or satisfaction level of them? I realize material and ink process may have changed from the originals but I would like the decals to look and feel as close to original…

I believe this is a Euro styled front spoiler for the 240z and Im interested in getting it from this guy's website "LEN BRENNAN". Has anyone dealt with or know who these guys are from Australia? Thanks "This front spoiler is the same shape as a genuine Nissan Factory spoiler in glass fibre, these are now the only official CAMS/FIA approved fitment to Datsun 240Z and 260Z cars in all local, national, and international race and rally motor sport events in Australia. Although smaller than the other spoilers, have proven to be quite effective in test in the US."

Found a second fuel pump under my 240Z. It's made by Dupree. Was searching the web a bit and found it could have been an dealership modification. Does anyone have more info regarding: -Why were they fitted? -How were they electrically switched and connected? -Would I be better of by removing both pumps and just running on a Holley electric pump,... My engine is and will stay equipped with roundtop SU's if that matters

Hello all, I'm a new member based in Fort Lauderdale, south Florida. After almost 20 years of dreaming of owning an S30 I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a 76 280z. My question is where do fellow South Floridians take their Z's for service / work? I have searched through the forums and cannot find any recent information that is up to date. My car is mostly stock and I am looking to have the normal mild upgrades done (suspension, bushings etc) but will be unable to do much of the work myself so am looking for a mechanic who is familiar with these cars. Any pointers in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. Oli

Sorry this might be a little long. This is my first classic Z. It actually is a very solid car. I paid 2500$ and I've seen worse at that price. Had plenty 240sx before with a KA-t and my favorite one a 98 240sx 1J. So this is my first 280z that I want to build. I have a decent tool collection. I do what I can handle. And have time for on my driveway (No garage). I have the Haynes manual so far and all these forums. I bought the car not being able to run and start and realized it was just the starter. So I got it started and loved driving it. So far I did all the maintenance stuff. Plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, did the rear drums, oil change…
