Hi there. I used to be active in this forum ages ago but three kids in a row took me out of the Z Car scene for a long time. I've got a 1971 (build late 1970) 240Z that a few years ago I had running in top order. The last time I drove the car was over a year ago, and after that time (started right away and ran great) I failed to start it for 9-10 months. A few months ago I went out to start it and it just wont fire up. I am not at all a mechanic and know very little about cars sadly. I just love Z cars since I got my first when I turned 16. Anyway - the car has a fresh new battery, it cranks and cranks. I just changed the fuel filter and the lines were dry to an…

Wood gear shift knob 1 2 3

I have owned a '72 and a '73. Both had wood gearshift knobs. I have seen factory '71s and '72's that didn't and I have seen them that did. I don't think I have ever seen a '73 without a wood knob. Mine does not have a wood gear shift knob but I believe it is factory. Does anyone know what "options" package if there were any, that caused a car to ship with the wood gearshift knob? It drives me nuts that I don't have one and the thought of aftermarket gives me headaches.

What would be different from a 2.4 kit versus a 2.8 kit? MSA shows one for '70 thru '74, then another for '75 thru '83. Thanks for any help, I've got the the one for the 2.8 but I need to put it on a 2.4. Do I need to buy another one? Maybe I can re-use the gears if they're different, that's all I can think of, the cam sprocket maybe because of the fuel pump. Thanks again, Cliff

My reverse lights have been malfunctioning intermittently: when I put the car in reverse sometimes they light up and most times they don't. I searched this forum and found nothing specific. I will go under the car and check/clean the connectors to the switch but if the problem persists I will have to source a new switch. I've seen $10 switches from Black Dragon, $38 from MSA, $45 from Z Connexion (apparently Nissan OEM) to $70 ones from another site. Any experience from the forum members with any of these? Are they all basically the same units or is there a true reliability difference among them? Thanks all.

I didn't know Nissan even produced it, I went to our club's Fall swap meet and the Nissan dealership parts guy was selling it at his table. I might just hang it on the wall. All three Z's I have taken apart had serious rust on this piece. If you don't recognize it, it is the panel that the gas tank filler tube goes through. Chris

Anyone know where I can get a set of 4 fuel tank pads? 76 280. I had them 2 days ago and can't find them anywhere. Need to get the tank back in and start driving. Thanks.

I was thinking of changing out my Side view mirror from the MSA flush mount mirrors that from my experience can only be used when the car isn't moving, which is not ideal. I'm trying to decide between a set of 4" Bullet style mirror or possible a set of Yana Shiki motor cycle Mirrors. I'm leaning towards the Yana Shiki mirrors cause I want to mount them further forward than the stock position so I don't have to turn my head much to look into them. Plus the Yana Shikis have convex mirrors as opposed to flat. I just want a few thoughts to make sure I'm not hopping over that fine line between genius and insanity. MSA Flush mount Mirrors 4" Bullet Style Mirror …

I sold my '71 White/Blue 240Z just over 2 years ago (discussed in another recent thread called 'Impressive Z Shop in Hungary') and sold the majority of the spare parts I had after three 240Z refresh projects, thinking that I would go in a completely different direction in terms of my next project. I looked around at other makes of classic cars, but really had a tough time deciding on what I was going to purchase for my next project. Well, guess what? I ended up buying another 240Z. I know, I know, I must really have the "disease'. I found another desert Z in Arizona, this time on the Tucson Craigslist. The car arrived at my body and paint guy's shop a little less than…

Hey guys, my name is Collin and I am a 22 year old new 240Z owner! This is an absolute dream car for me, and I never thought that I'd own one this early in life, but my grandfather found an incredible deal on two that I could not pass up! One is a 1972, that'll be used for parts, and the other is a 1971, which is pictured, that'll be restored. I got all of this for $500!!! The guy has already rebuilt the carbs and done a few other things, which is awesome! I have two hoods and tons of parts and will be picking everything up on Monday! The 1971 has a few pretty bad rot spots, but that is to be expected. For the price, I am absolutely thrilled!!! My goal is to deal with all…

The 1973 240z that I've recently purchased is a 5mt. I assumed that it had some work done on it to convert it to a 5mt with a newer transmission, maybe from a 280z. However with some research and a Hayens manual, it seems that I have an original 5 speed based on my VIN and this page below. I'm wondering about how to verify that it is truly an original 5mt and if this is a big deal or not. Thanks! HLS30167378 is my VIN

Hey! I am looking for any info on what was the original battery for the 72 Z. Does anyone have pictures? I am trying to "Disguise" a new battery as the original. Any pictures are better then none and none is what I have now. if I can find a old dead battery I would consider buying it. Thanks! Polecat
