Hey Guys, I just bought my first Z this month and drove it 500 miles home. Runs great. I'm new to the 240Z though and don't know a ton about the engines. Mine is a series 1 with the original E31 head. I know this one is a higher compression head. What is the best octane to run on a stock motor to avoid detonation? Also, if the engine hasn't been re-built (I'm not sure if this one has) what do you do about the unleaded fuel?

http://www.webeautos.com/detail-1970-datsun-240z-for_sale-used-12865859.html It looks like a nice restoration but I don't know about concourse, I found 3 glaring errors pretty easily. Still, some nice work. Chris

Hi everyone, Jai (Redwing) is a bit timid about protocols, even though we're a pretty informal bunch. So I'm taking the liberty of explaining her situation. She needs a bit of special help from the Z community, starting with a frank assessment of her situation and the formulation of a plan of attack. She's going to need a lot of parts help from us, but I think she is absolutely worth all the help we give her. Think, "What would Mr. K do?" We've all already met Jai. She's 72 years old, lives in Georgia, and has been a die-hard Z'aholic from an early age. What most of us probably don't know is that she lives on Social Security, and her finances are very, very …

All, I looked at a late 1970 production car yesterday. Other than being in 905 red the car looked great and for an East Coast car was remarkably in good shape. it was very original, and even still had the 'D' hubcaps. However, there is something that gives me pause: the frame rails. At first glance they looked nice and solid (even when hit with a screwdriver and hammer). Even the battery tray area was solid. However, on both sides near the shock tower there were small holes in the rail along the inner fender. It almost looked like a weld that was not completed. My question is does this send up alarm bells? Is this a sign of serious corrosion from the inside …

Apologies if this has been posted already, I didn't see it. Was watching an episode of "What's My Car Worth" and there was a '71 240Z featured. This car had Panasports and lens covers, but appeared to be in decent shape and otherwise stock. The assessor (I think his name is Josh) said it was a condition 3 car - I thought it was at least a 2. He did cite the non-standard items. The owner thought the car would go for $20K at auction. Keith Martin said $22K. The car got $23K - nice number for a nice car. Martin did a little profile, and compared the 240Z to the Porsche 911 of the same era. He owned one, and noted that it did almost everything right, and absolutel…

Curious what some of you guys do with the parts you pull off your car. I've got things like sway bars, bumpers, springs, etc. that I've removed from the car and don't imagine I'll be putting them back on. I could store them somewhere, but we're moving in a month or two, so I'm in a purging kind of mood. Tossing it all in the dumpster feels kinda...wrong, though. Based on the posts I've seen languish on Craigslist, I don't imagine that stuff has much value, so trying to sell them (or even give them away) may be more trouble than it's worth.

Here is my attempt to compile a list of the earliest 240Z parts (used on the HLS30 model) and which cars came with them http://www.editgrid.com/user/mike_b/Early_240z_%28HLS30%29_parts. Use the password "datsun" (no quotes or caps) to view or edit. I used the same online spreadsheet that Mike W used for the VIN registry. Right now it is open for public viewing and editing. I have a backup copy saved and will back it up frequently if other people decide to add to it. If I start having the same problem with the data being corrupted (as on the VIN registry) I will lock the spreadsheet down and I'll update it for other people. There are two worksheets. The first is a su…

I am looking for some help for the A/C system that I am installing in my early 260Z. The car did not come with a/c so I have taken most of the parts from a 280Z and am installing them in my car. My FSM talks about the Fast Idle Control Device that is actuated by one of the vacume solenoids to increase the idle speed when the engine is under load from the a/c. Do I need this item? Is this item similar to the one that is actuated by the EGR valve? Does anybody know where I can get one? Thanks, Skip 260Z, SU's

Hi all, I'm mostly a lurker on here, but I thought I'd share with you all. I've owned a few Zs, my last being this 1975 with L28ET and MS2 that I sold in July of last year. Miss that car, but couldn't stand to let it sit out in rainy weather and rust after I moved down here in Corpus Christi. This past December, I found out that I was moving to Japan this coming November, so my NSX aspirations were put on hold after I had found the most perfect 1992 Comptech supercharged black on ivory NSX up in New Hampshire (telling that guy I couldn't buy his car almost literally hurt) . My last NSX for kicks: Miss that car dearly as well, more than the Z. I've been in a s…

I was having my usual look through 240Zforsale.com and came across this ad that really made me smile, one thing I've noticed when I was looking for my car that, in general, not much information is given in your classifieds, well this guy certainly paints a picture!
