I have been running my '71 Z in track day events for about 5 years. I recently threw a rod in my Rebello motor and almost simultaneously lost my job. (oil and gas related jobs are not very stable). I love this car and I have a tremendous amount of time in its development. I feel that I must now sell it as is and also all the spare parts and the original parts taken off during the performance upgrades. Too much to list here, but if someone is a serious buyer of either the car, the parts, or both, just shoot me an e-ail and I will forward a complete list of what is for sale. It needs to be said that this car is set up for the track and is not a street car and will never…

Hey all, I just recently acquired a set of hubcaps for one of my Z's. I have reviewed articles regarding the color of the cap (gray etc.) but I am looking for info regard the red color that is on the Z medaleon in the center of the cap. I have attached a picture regarding the center cap I am referring to. Thanks in advance for all your input. Newtonhubcap

I don't know if this will interest many people other than myself, but I wanted to share some pictures of the original spark plug leads that were still on my car when I bought it last month. The factory original leads each had the cylinder number printed on them, along with the manufacturer's name, and the 1971 of manufacture. Taking pictures that show this was harder than I expected, but note the name "YAZAKI" is visible, you can see that the leads for number 3 and 4 are the ones with the printing towards the camera, '1971' is clearly visible on number 3, and a repeated zig-zag symbol (Resistor?) is on both leads. All six plug leads have this same printing, with the pro…

Just kidding! I was discussing this original Datsun ring binder I have with classiczcars.com member 26th-z. He's an avid collector of all things Datsun/Z, so I mentioned it to him, and he had never heard of its existence. SOOOOOO I thought I'd post some info here. It was produced in May of 1970. This seems to be the Canadian edition (if there were any others) as indicated by the line drawing of the Great White North on the front of the yellow plastic cover. It was given to me along with an old dilapidated early 1976 260Z owned by a dealer Service Manager. Sadly the car was too far gone to warrant a restoration, but I kept some hardware and literature from the donati…

I have been going over my rally clock to figure out why so many have said the oscillator is not a reproduceable thing. Because it cannot be a magic box made and used by a magician, I cannot believe it cannot be reproduced. To that end, I think I have come up with what it does... It looks to be a three phase converter for DC. I have not verified this, but with three power leads (Redblue, Redyellow, and Redwhite) coming out and conecting directly to the only motor in the clock and only a B+ and B- going in. The clock case also has a ground. I will keep on it and ohm-out the motor tonight. Will

I was browsing for projects. I don't need one but you never know. I might find the perfect car to supplant my other projects. I like to look out West because the cars have less rust. Found this http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/cto/4982451262.html Thoughts? I won't do it but I have seen a number of cars that are $4-500 cars in my opinion but are starting to be priced a lot higher. Not saying this is a $500 car but a $4000 car? What do you all think?

Built up enough courage to take my "acorn" oem antenna apart. As with most antennas the motor works but antenna doesn't move. So, I pulled the antenna apart. Of course the sections come out the bottom of each tube and at the bottom of each tube is brass collar that the antenna tubes are crimped too. Using my dremel cut-off wheel I cut each brass collar off and pulled each tube section out. I am down to the final section but just learned the "Acorn" tip will not fit through the final section. My question is doe any one know how the Acorn tip is installed? Is it solider, does it screw on what? Do I need to cut it off and then weld it back? My objective is to install a ne…

I need to replace the OEM windshield on my 1978 280Z. I have found two sources for a replacement made by PGW Autoglass with a bluish tint and a darker band at the top. Has anyone used this brand replacement glass? Is there another maker that is preferable? Another source? Thanks to all.

All, Background - I have a near-stock '73 240. Over the course of many years I expect to be doing a fair amount to improve the car. This year, I have a bit of money stashed for an incremental improvement. I am evaluating what to do - continue to save to enable doing a punch of stuff at once, or take on one incremental improvement area (for example - I could focus on suspension upgrades/improvements this year). I have a budget, for the next year or so, of up to $3500. What would you suggest I consider? Some specifics: 1973 240 No rust, body and interior in 9/10 shape All stock with the exception of the following: -previous owner rebuilt the engine (don't…

Looks like I will be departing the Seattle & pacific NW area on Friday, May 1st. on a 2400 mile trip to Prarie Grove AR in my beloved 280z. New house is rented and will be ready. Two vehicles going, the big car is being driven by a friend, pulling a trailer, me in my Z car - just a light load of stuff & my lap top. Some big stuff already sent ahead by truck. The planned route goes thru Boise, Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Should be able to catch parts of historic Route 66 after Vegas. Should be in NW AR by Wed or Thurs the following week if all goes according to plan, (stopping in Vegas for a day). Have the Z ca…

I just purchased my 1973 240Z and, before I start going crazy, I was wondering what are considered "sensible" updates. I will figure out if the numbers are truly matching receive it on Saturday (the condition justified the price regardless), so that will determine my long-term plan, but if it ends up being numbers matching I will be much more inclined to do an actual restoration as opposed to a rest-mod. Mostly I'm thinking about rear disk breaks. I can't stand changing drum pads. I'm also looking at a front air dam and Minilites. If the car doesn't have the original engine I am thinking of going with an L28et/T5/R200 setup. So, please, let the opinions fly!
