Long story short. I work as a part time mechanic. Full time manufacturing tech. I have had nothing but trouble with felpro and Victor reinz (european) gaskets in the last couple years. They used to be the best. I've had to do timing belts twice since the felpro crank seal seeped oil. Rear main seal. Differential seals. My car recently started Leaking oil from the oil pump. So while I had the sway bar off for some bushing upgrades I decided to throw on a felpro gasket. Torqued it down to spec and it leaked! I really had to uncomfortably torque down the fasteners to stop the leak since there was no way I was taking the sway bar off. What's the deal are these? Are they ma…

For the Z aficianado, here's a pretty neat piece of memorabilia. No tools, just the toolbox - here's the seller description from craigslist: "I've got a factory tool box for the factory tools for an early Datsun 240Z. This is the real Nissan case that had the tools in it for the dealers. Sorry but no tools, I only have the case. This would be cool for a 240z person. Email your phone number if interested." And the link: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/pts/1404914661.html Does anyone have one of these? How about with the tools? Gary S.

Well, my auto to 5 speed manual transmission swap in my 7/71 240Z is complete! I couldn't have done it without all the help and advice from the numerous members of this site! The main issue I had was that the transmission I bought from a junk yard that was out of a 78 280Z had a throwout bearing collar that was for a 4 speed transmission. Of course I didn't realize that until I installed it and found out the hard way. But now I know which collar goes with which clutch set. I do have to say that the automatic transmission was much quieter than the 5 speed. But after researching numerous threads on the subject of noisy manual transmissions in old Z cars, I've decided not t…

A parts car came available here in Lincoln, Nebraska, so I snatched it up. It has been sitting in a field for 15 years, so is not in great shape, but it was fairly original, and fairly complete. I wanted to give this forum first shot at anything that might be unique to the '71, or hard to find for this year. My '72 was not original, so there may be things I'm not familiar with. Things like the hangers for the seat belts, the coat hanger hooks, that are a little different, that I hadn't seen before. Also, these switches (see pic), that I cannot for the life of me remember where they came from. There is not an original radio, and the clock doesn't work. Most ev…

Hello Hope I am not missing something obvious here. I have a 71 240z (HLS3016707) that i am trying to remove the fuel pump and not sure what i am missing in trying to remove it. I have removed the main bolt on the bottom and the nuts from the two bolts coming out of the block. It is not moving at all. See attached photos. Have seen some other posts about having to remove some other adjacent items but i cannot see how anything else is holding it. Anyone have full removal instructions or pictures of what i need to do. Thanks for any help. Replacing it since I have oil running out of the side of the pump from the weep hole. Keith

I've been doing research for a few weeks now and asking around and trying to gauge what will fit and not rub. I have an 11/70 240z with the stock rotors, hub and suspension and want to put an 8 spoke wheel such as the Watanabe's, Panasports or Rota RB's on my Z. I have narrowed it down to 15x7 wheels with a 205 size tire (heard that this is what to use for the setup I have. I was hoping for some input on the offset though. Any and all help would be appreciated and if I have my facts wrong at any point, please let me know! Chris

Found out today that there is a reason why Nissan chose to place heat shields on the exhaust side of the engine compartment. Was doing some routine maintenance & cleaning under the hood and moved a nylon vacuum line I had routed poorly near the heat shield that protects the brake master cylinder area, and .... it crumbled like a 4000 year old scroll from king tuts tomb. Checked the line and it had turned very hard and brittle on the unprotected side of the heat shield closest to the exhaust manifold. On the other side of the heat shield, it was fine. The rubber section of the line was fine. Fortunately, I had coiled some excess & tucked it behind the MC…

I'm close to finishing the auto to manual tranny conversion on my 71 240Z. It's a 5 speed out of a 78 280Z. Since I bought the transmission at a junk yard with no way of knowing it's condition, I took it to a reputable transmission shop to get it looked at before I put it in. They replaced one bearing and said everything else is good. So, do I fill it with whatever is originally recommened, or have any of you had better luck with anything else. I live in Iowa, so it only gets driven in warm weather and put away in the winter. Thanks.
