Hey everyone! Just joined the forum last week, and so far it looks like an invaluable resource. You guys have so much info here. In any case, after a several year search, I finally found the car I was looking for- a relatively low mileage 1970 240Z, with not too many rust issues. My dad had a similar car (his was a '72), and this was the first car I ever cared about. I'm in the process of sorting out what needs to be done, and it's remarkable how many parts are still available. She runs, strts and stops great, so I'm going to hold off on some of the mechanical things for a while so I can enjoy driving it before I take anything major apart. Here's where I'm starting ou…

Is it my imagination, or is it conceivable that I really tell the difference between regular and premium by the smell? Premium smells a lot "sweeter/smoother" while regular smells "sharper/harsher". I'm no wine guy, but I think I got a pretty good nose... Is this my imagination?

I purchased this one-owner cream puff in April of 2012. It was repainted and semi-customized in 1974 and if Scooby Doo had a 240z, instead of a van, it would look like this. My plan was to drive it for a few months and then start on a minor cleanup and engine refresh. The refresh slowly turned into a full blown paint-stripping, nuts and bolts restoration and it has been a blast. I couldn't have made it this far without using this forum as a resource for all things 240z. I will start to post some pics from the last 12 months.

Looking at my hagerty magazine this morning, I saw some auction results from Monterey. The classic car market is turning into a full fledged commodity. Which I do not like really. These are cars to be enjoyed, not traded like a barrel of oil or Apple stock. Back on topic... The prices were enlighteneing: A 1995 911 turbo sold for 190k bucks, so the 911 bubble has not popped yet. Closure to our hearts the japanese market has picked up serious steam. A Honda S600 went for 44280 bucks A 1972 2000 GTR skyline brought a staggering 242,000 dollars And finally, A 67 mazda cosmo sold for a whopping 264,000 dollars. These are incredible numbers. Not too long…

It looks like my days of Z ownership are coming to an end. I have owned a z since 1982. Had them in my life since my dad bought one new in 1974. A good friend of mine has been breaking my chops about selling him my Z for a while. It is a 2/71 in very good shape. Refreshed it (thought I restored it, until I met Carl Beck on the internet) back in the mid 90's and have put a total of 5K miles on it. I am sad to see it go, but I haven't driven it and I think it is time for someone else to enjoy it. I am planning to put something else in its place just not a Datsun. I have seen one or two old z's around my hometown, Greenwood, SC, maybe I can catch them and pass along some…

Dropped my gas tank today. 1972 240z.. And I have an interesting issue. The fuel retun pipe (small one on top in the picture) moves, it spins although if I pull it out a little it tightens up. I doubt it's intended to be a friction fit. Has anyone had this issue? The tank is really clean id hate to have to have it cleaned out just to weld this up. Any suggestions? Would you trust jb weld on this? Thanks

Has anybody seen prices on 1969 240Z project cars? I have a chance to get one but it has the usual rust, fender flares and vents cut into the hood. I'm trying to find out just how bad the rust is but I assume it needs floors and rockers. It's missing the correct steering wheel, seats, underhood plastic fresh air ducts, wheels, hub caps and I'm sure a few other things. Oh, the engine and trans are gone and in their place is an L28 and 5-speed. The seller doesn't remember the exact number of the car but it's around 490. What do you think it's worth? Chuck

Hey, any of our Ontario members know what's happening at Whitehead Peeformance? I have not heard from Mike for 2 1/2 weeks and a look at their web page shows openings for Head mechanic, mechanic, and counter person! I am a little concerned about what's going on there!

well, I got the car. Then I got the flu. Then I got pneumonia. Been a rough month or so. Fortunately, while I've been laid up in bed, Ive been able to sort out getting some parts Ive needed, while the friend helping me with the car has been able to get some initial stuff done with it. -First, it seems that I got a pretty solid car to start. My mechanic looked it over, and theres not too much to do from an engine standpoint. Runs nicely, pulls hard, tranny doesn't slip- no big bugaboos. -Body and frame are pretty solid. There is some surface rust on the frame rails, and a couple of small holes/pits in the body. Even the battery tray is in decent shape. Going to get…
