It looks like after owning my '73 240z for about three years, I still don't know everything about my Z. The PO bought the car used at a Datsun dealer in 1976. He didn't mention any performance upgrades when I was buying it, just that it was the longest relationship of his life. I discovered I sold the 99996-E1140 Datsun Comp headers over the summer (thought they were no-name, now I have NOS Clifford). Car has front/rear sway bars. I finally measured them...25mm front, 19mm rear. Presumably from Nissan. That explains why the Autozone front sway bar bushings were so hard to get on!! The last thing I'm trying to figure out is who made four point roll bars back in the day. It…

After a great day driving, I had some smoky brakes so I turned the car off and stupidly turned the wheel over to check out the problem. One thing led to the next and I heard a pop sound in the column and now I can't turn the key or start my car. Not sure exactly what I broke but I'm asking for some help here. It would be greatly appreciated! Chris

280z engine in a 240zna lost the clutch yesterday so ... I have a l24 flywheel in the garage can I have it surfaced and ready to go (in other words are the l24 and l28 flywheels the same ) Is it worth it to buy a lighten fly wheel on a NA car? I was think of saving $ and put it in my turbo car thought it would have a greater effect. Thanks DC

Hello everyone. New member here. Perhaps someone here can help me. I am looking for someone or a shop (in Phoenix) to complete the restoration of my 1978 280Z. I did a search of this site but only turned up old or outdated information. The fellow who had been working on it (Nissan factory mechanic) had major health issues and couldn't finish it. He got it about 80% done. It still needs some engine work and interior under dash work. The work needed is mostly reassembly. I have all the parts. I estimate it would take 40 to 80 hours. One problem is that it needs new rear upper strut mount insulators which are NLA. I'm having a hard time finding them anywhere. Let me know…

Hi, today I bought another 240z as the one I have was really too far rusted to repair. So now I am fixing up this 1970 240z and I will use my other z for any parts I may need. Now the interesting part is my Vin number is 000566, is this a good thing? does it make the car more collectable? i plan to do a proper restoration over the next couple months. here are a couple pics, it even has the D hubcaps:classic:

It's been a little while since I have posted on here. Last time I had was right around ZCON right when I started having issues with my car having issue which appeared to be percolation or even vapor lock, which I assumed could be within the engine bay itself. After switching out the NEW mechanical pump for another new one and wrapping up the fuel lines with header tape to prevent percolation, I headed to ZCON where I didn't make it to Bakersfield (from Sacramento) without having the issue again. So I towed it over the grapevine to a true auto part shop that had the parts that I would need in order to get her up and running again. Getting under the car, I found that the…

Hey Guys my names Joel. I've been on the forum for a few months, browsing and reading a lot. Skimming topics. I've barely scratched the surface on what I wish to learn and things I need to learn, but all in all, tons of good info. around here. Cool stuff in the archive I can't wait to apply to my Datsun as things progress. Clearly I'm a bit reserved posting my personal things but I do document nearly everything. One day I might make an interesting thread; one day. For now I just wanted to share with you all a little bit and maybe inspire someone as I've been inspired. This will be a log covering my first engine rebuild ever. You see, I decided when I bought my Datsun to a…

Hey guys, just want to clarify my intentions: My 70 240 is seemingly on the low side of the power spectrum, and I KNOW I have a lot to be found. It's not my first L motor, but it is my first L-6 and my first set of side drafts. I feel like at one point it made a scary amount of power, but now I'm starting to feel like I'm lacking. My L24 has a stock bottom end with flat-tops, and an N47 head to replace to shot E31 that's undergoing a rebuild for my L28 build. For the time being I'm making do with what I have but I feel like I'm not getting enough power. It's got stock manifolds, bone stock exhaust with the original glasspack, etc etc. I JUST rebuild my N47 from the groun…

Well I've owned my '72 Z for a couple of months now, had a lot of fun and got to know what I need to address while putting on some miles. I just changed the plugs, did a compression test, checked the timing and set the points gap. I am happy with the compression, 150 across the board dry and 160 to 170 wet, the variability was probably due to how much oil I squirted in each cylinder. May be able to get away with just a re-ringng it in the future The front three spark plugs looked great the back tree were black, I need to adjust the carbs the back must be running rich. Plug gap was way too small, I put in new plugs with correct gap. Similarly the point gap was almost no…

1971 240z. Finally was able to register my Z. It hit the road for a while yesterday, and then I realized I don't have high beams. Or I just don't know where the switch is. Should I be equipped with such a luxurious item?
