So my fusible link box was in pretty bad shape. I went out and purchased a 2 fuse maxifuse block from walmart, which I want to install. Now the thing is the 74 260z is a little different from all the write ups Ive seen done on the maxifuse upgrade on 240s and 280s. I seen maybe 1 or 2 people mention they done it from doing a google search, but no specifics on how it was done. I stripped the wiring harness back. I removed the white wire that went from the starter positive to the fusible link. I am going to run an 8 gauge power wire from the battery direct to my new maxifuse block. The other end of the white wire (that was originally fused to the fusible link) i will hook…

I really had no intention of buying another one but when I saw the ad for this car it was obvious that it was going to need a complete restore or it was going to the wreckers. Floors are completely gone, passenger side rear quarter and rocker are a mass of rust and bondo, it's bad but I know I can save it. The metal work and some of the body I can do without too much trouble but I'm not looking forward to the dog legs. I brought it home this afternoon and the more I dig into it the better it gets. Built Sept. 1971, Butterscotch interior, the original green is in the pic of the spare tire well (and it's going back to that colour) 2 owners, a father and then the son, i…

How long can a Z car sit? I have 2 that I'm neglecting a little bit while I'm working on my newest one. I charge their batteries once a month and crank them every weekend I just don't drive them. I'm worried about the fuel sitting still in the tank. I can't decide whether to fill the tank or leave it lower because I won't be driving them. I know this isn't the worst problem to have but still a worry to me. Thanks for any recomendations.

Removing, cleaning and reinstalling a Water Temperature Sending Unit on a Datsun 240z

The temperature in my 240z is not Reading correct and i was thinking now that the car has 2 days of not been cranked to remove the temperature sending unit on my car, clean it with a brush and contact cleaner and reinstall it back again. Is there anything i should be aware? i.e. using a dialectric grease or pipe tape? any precautions i should take when removing and installing it back? I bought a new one on ebay and the mechanic says it does not fit. I thought these temp sending units were standard for 1970-1983 Zs? Please advise.

The tool bag pouch you get with the car is some kind of cheap vinyl and barely holds the tools, if you know how to correctly put them in. Then there's the small, rusty, 40-year-old snaps to hold the flap closed. Mine is already cracking along the fold of the flap. Wouldn't it be nice to have a tool bag that is slightly longer and fuller, with a longer flap and a better closure, like a hasp or squeeze buckle? Maybe even a lining or a material heavy enough so you don't hear the tools rattling? This would be a good group-buy item, but I'd like to get one in any case, so I can get all my jack tools and a few of the fancy aluminum wheel nuts inside. The details need to be…

During my recent rear 240 bumper project, I had a really nice surprise discovery. When I was dismounting the 280 bumper & freed it from the bumper shocks, I heard a clang on the ground. It was a little metal box with a magnet on the bottom to stick it to the inside of the bumper. All rusted, must have been there a very long time. An old hide-a-key box. Upon opening it, it contained a key with just surface rust on one side. Cleaned up easily with steel wool. Works perfectly on all the locks. Great timing as I was getting ready to replace my main key (I don't use the original Datsun key - its too nice) Who knew!

I want some opinions here if that would be cool, I'm 20 (gonna be 21 soon) and I am considering this 1976 Datsun 280z . I have a small job and a lot of time, going to community college with like 2 or 3 classes depending on semester. Currently on the prowl for a new job, something for more money... I know a lot about cars and love them (especially Z's), and my dad loves and knows how to work on cars (owns a 71' charger he built up) and would love to learn more about mechanics work on something with him. Seriously considering auto technician school also if that helps. I have $2,000+ or so saved up and I am earning more as we speak. I plan of using most of that m…

Has anyone done business with Classic Datsun Motorsports lately? I've sent them messages but haven't gotten a response. Are they still in business?
