The car: 1972 240Z w/ a 280ZX electronic distributor. I had, perhaps still have, an odd problem with the rear carb. The car would be running fine but our of the blue would lose the ability to accelerate at a rate faster than a bus without going into a spasm of misfiring. It would accelerate and get up to speed, but it was ugly getting there to say the least. Then, mysteriously, it would be fine. Eventually I figured out that the rear carb would lose its damping -- despite having oil in it. After convincing myself, that yes, there was oil and more importantly, being able to reproduce the problem at home, I pulled the carb and dissembled the vacuum chamber. To be hone…

Do you own or have access to a 1960-1972 JDM FairladyZ or FairladyZ-L? If you do, could you share/post a picture or description of the number on the firewall (e.g. S30-00014), one of the engine number on the two pads found above the heater tri-**** (e.g. L20 - first pad sometimes electropencil engraved appearing, the second pad: 256597), and a photo of the id plate on the strut tower in the engine compartment? This would be great information gathered together on these early Series 1 JDM Z cars! Here are two from my 1971, the engine compartment id plate is missing. Thank you!!

I apologize if I have asked this question here before (so I won't get fried again by certain "contributors" to the forum). Could someone describe the physical differences between the L20 engine and the L20A engines from 1960-1972? Apparently the S30 Z with the L20 was only available in the Japanese Home Market cars? I do know both are 6-cylinder engines and that the L20 is a 2.0 liter engine and that's about it as far as what I have learned thus far. What I did find in Wikipedia is: "L20/L20A Nissan L20 engine The L20 is a SOHC 12-valve engine produced from 1966. A 78.0 mm bore and 69.7 mm stroke meant a displacement of 1,998 cc. Later, this engine became the L20A to avoi…

Hi everyone, I have a 72 240z that I am putting back together. The car has the suspension put together but the steering column is not installed. I checked for the bolts from Nissan, supposedly they are available form their online catalog. I did notice the main bolts(32055-47600) on top that bolt under the dash are $67 a piece, is this true?? Are there any other sources? I am looking for automotive grade with the proper strength. thanks

Hello Everyone! I just pulled the trigger on a 1971 240z last week. I live in Vancouver myself, and will be trailering it up over the border tomorrow (Washington vehicle). This is my first Z, and my first classic. I'm extremely excited, and a little overwhelmed. Hopefully with the vast knowledge on here, i'll be able to get this thing on the road sooner then later. First i'll start out with it's story. It is a 1971 240z Automatic in Orange (918?). It is basically a one owner vehicle. Originally a California car, the original owner passed away, and it went over to his son in Seattle (about 1999) who stored it for many years. He then sold it to a family friend who…

I have been lurking around awhile and posted a few items here and there since I sold my ’72 240z back in 2013. I love my FR-S that I drive everyday but I miss having a classic Z and the interaction between owners. I have learned from my previous Z car ownerships that I want one as done as much as possible, the best car I can afford. I want it in silver or red, black interior, 4spd or 5spd, as rust free as possible, and as original as possible meaning no V8 swaps, stanced cars, flared fenders, etc. Getting a Series-1 is a big bonus as long as it is all there but most importantly, something I can start enjoying from day 1. I have looked at and investigated a few pote…

Im finally rebuilding my head and im putting in the datsun competition cam. My question is when setting the timing dowel on the cam sproket, which one is better suited for the C cam? #1 as it came on stock 260z or #2 because its slightly upgraded compared to the other cams. I know its not a "hot" cam but its slight performance to me any in would appreciated

I came across a 240z dated 8/70 vin HLS30008992 with A/C. It looks like it was converted from A/T to 4sp. Would it be worth it to swap back to A/T? I'm not looking for performance gains or anything. I just want to get it back to an original state. I've never driven an AT z before, are they gutless? Should I just keep the manual and move on? Opinions please. Thanks

Anyone plan on attending? I'm hoping I can see lots of 240z's there and get firedup to get my project going full steam. Maybe even get my first ride in one. It's been two years of ownership and I haven't even put the engine in. Gotta keepthe dream alive.
