Bare with me here... first post. I need some help figuring out what's wrong. I have a 1972 240z with SU carbs. I have recently replaced the plugs, wires, coil, points and condensers. My problem is that after about 20 minutes of driving the car begins to "surge". I usually first notice it coming off of a stop, but once it starts I can't drives out of it (meaning that it continues to surge regardless of speed). I know my SU's are worn because in the summer they run very rich regardless of what I do :angry:so my plan is to replace them. Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks for any advice, Scot

Hey there! I am looking for a splash pan for my early 72 240! Anyone got one floating around and willing to part with it? Its going to be striped and then replated the silver Zinc like when it was installed on the car from the factory. Its part of the restoration that I am doing. Any leads will be appreciated!

hey there, my name is Mark! been a long time fan of the early Z cars and decided to finally bite the bullet and find one to fix up and enjoy! i wanted one i could put some work into, so i looked around for a bit until i found this late model 280z. car is currently not running but turns over. I'm buying it from a very nice lady that got the car, it stopped running. tried acouple basic things with no luck and let t sit to fix later. well later turned into her just buying a 370z! as I'm told, the owner before her had the car repainted and had a motor rebuild done. the exterior certainly looks good, but the interior however has seen some better days! all in all I'm happy wi…

Hi All Recently acquired my first 240Z, and I am just looking to get some history surrounding it (or maybe just other cars of its age). Its an HS30 (RHD) with a VIN number of #193 making it a fairly early 240z. According to my newly delivered V5 (previous owner had it on a private plate), the Date of Manafacture is 01/01/1970, although having looked on the numbers on the ZHome it is likely to be later than that. As a result of its early age, it has been given a historic age related plate of H which is 1969 in the UK. Its been heavily modified during its life. Its believed to have been owned by a member of a club rally group in Aus before it was imported to the UK in 05 (I…

Well, today was the day I finally got to drive my Z. I was able to get a day permit to drive the vehicle to an inspection facility. I have imported the vehicle from the US (Yes, i'm Canadian Eh). I got them to take a look over the vehicle and give me a heads up on what I need to do to get the vehicle in a passing condition. It was nice to see the car up on the hoist. Overall they were really impressed with how clean the car was underneath which was great to hear. Obviously I took advantage of the day, and stopped for an impromptu photo shoot. I thought a theme of "coming out of the barn" was a good idea. Hope you enjoy the pictures. The list they gave me was…. …

Here is what the rest of the private message went on to say. Hi. My name is Terry. I saw your post ‘my 73 240z from CO’ regarding your white Z. I thought you might need a new project (or parts) so here’s my story. I have a 1973 Datsun 240Z that’s been garaged since 1985. I had hoped I could return it to its glory days. But alas, I realize now it’s not going to happen with me. I was the 2nd owner, purchased in 1974 with 12,000 miles. It now sits at 214,000 miles. I was planning on putting ads out to see if anyone would be interested in it, but when I saw your post I thought I’d contact you first (since you’re relatively local, I live in Boulder). The car…

I'm in need of some help, I've never owned a 240z before or any of the other models, quite honestly I'm pretty new to cars in general (anything that inst a classic VW). I have recently found a 1972 240z which I have all intentions in buying, it has some problems and needs some work. I've got the a few of the things it needs pined down (gas pump + carb rebuild) but I'm lost when it comes the the hoses, I want to get an idea of how much its gonna cost before I make the purchase. If you guys could help me with a list of all the necessary hoses (not including the ones for the heater) it would be really quite helpful. <img src="http://images.craigslist.org/00N0N_59sF1KmolHB…

i've been restoring my z out in front of my house for the past 6 months, and i've met a ton of people during that time. they just stop chat about how they had one in high school, or how they dated someone who had one, or how they always wanted one... one neighbor up the street mentioned he had a '67 e-type jag, and while i had my car up on jacks fiddling w/suspension, he came by for a visit. with the green paint, tan interior, "wood" steering wheel, 240 bumper, headlight covers and wire wheels, the z really held it's own in the presence of a $90K brit classic it was a hoot to see the two cars together! there were so many styling cues that were similar - i had never se…

It was a tough fight but I won! after loosening that big old bracket, dropping the alternator and removing the fan and water pump. If that thing didn't blow cold air I would have left it off.
