I have the opportunity to get a 73 Datsun 240z (my brothers) that hasn't been ran in many years (like 15 or so!) The engine has been stroked (280 Crank in 240 block), cam, head work etc. It currently has triple Webers on it an he has two sets of the early SU's (I believe they are from a 70-71 240z). He also has a 5 speed trans w/ matching rear end to put in. I know a lot desire the 3 Webers and it was a blast to drive but very temperamental. I want to use it as a daily driver (even in the winter here in UT). I don't mind tuning every so often. I have driven a 240z with the stock SU and it was still fun. So my questions would be- 1- On my engine, how much difference…

Figured I'd share this 280 build for anyone interested. I had a 240 build thread going on awhile ago, but that project has currently gone on hiatus and the cars sitting in my enclosed trailer in the back yard. It's going to require more work than I can give it right now. I found a good price on a 1978 280Z original owner, hopefully it will be a straight forward restoration, I decided to pick it up and start another project. This time I'm on a time line, I'll be moving to California at the end of the year and won't have the garage space to do any major work on it. This being said, the time crunch is on! This is the picture of me taking her home. Bought it from the…

the z is running well, but using a little oil and showing some oil-fouling around the perimeter of the plugs. compression is acceptable, so i figured i'd check the valve seals. thanks to blue's tech tips, i had the tools, parts and process sorted and went at it saturday morning. couldn't wait to try out my new spring compressor couple things i discovered: i didn't have to mess w/my lash adjustment, just used the spring compressor to pull out the rocker arms and never touched the adjustors. easy-peasy, and the clearances checked out just fine when i was all done and put back together. the collets/retainers were very stuck inside the spring cap - so much so, that w…

There's a great article on the front page of the Los Angeles Times Business Section today. The focus is on the increased interest in collecting Japanese cars and the subsequent jump in price - there's that old supply and demand thing again. The 240Z is mentioned a few times in the article, along with 510s, the 2000GT, a Celica, and the rotary Cosmo. Importers are quoted. Dennis

I have bad rust in my gas tank so i bought por-15 repair kit and it was terrible. Still tons of rust in the tank. Now im going to try vinegar and chain to break it up and if that doesnt work im going to cut it in half, clean it and reweld it together.

Hello everyone. New to the forums and thought I would begin by sharing my Z. 1972 Datsun 240z was purchased by my uncle from the dealer and then later sold to my father. About a year and a half ago my father passed away and left the Z in my care. I pulled the Z out of storage last winter and over the spring have begun to work on her and so far she is being very receptive to being woken up. Trying to sort threw a high idle issue that I hope some fellow Z guys can help with. So without further wait here is some pictures I've taken along the way.

no... not the crunchy peanut butter cereal... the Obvious one :classic: had to fly out to Philly for my nephew's graduation and pm'd the Cap'n on the odd chance he lived near enough for a cup of coffee. we met up at my uncle's house for breakfast and had a great morning talking cars, bikes, etc. and checking out his very sweet z - fun!! always great to drive another example to set reference points and get an idea of what i might expect from my ride. the big "ah-ha" was how his z handles - the thing is a scalpel in the curves and sooo planted on the roadway. all the resto work done on the steering and suspension really paid off. i've been collecting bits for a suspensio…
