I would appreciate any comments on this. As I rebuild my 280 all the ID Tags / VIN indicate it is #359550 dated August 1976. I have owned it since 1978. I have run into several instances where the info in the FSM for 1976 does not jive with the parts on the car. For example the rear wheel cylinders, the gas tank has the top mounted fuel level sensor all as shown in the 1978 FSM etc etc. Has anyone else experienced these issues? Thanks in advance.

A couple days ago - someone said they knew someone that was reproducing the inspection lid clips for the very early Z's.. Question who was that? Is there a source for these somewhere? thanks, Carl B.

Well I think I have seen it all. Some of the issues I have dealt with were just plain dumbfounding. 1. Glued nipple on cold start valve. 2. Phone wire on fuel pump power. 3. Foam around trans because of torn boot. 4. Last but not least MAF spring was sprung Found this trying to figure out a rich condition. So lets hear your nightmares

Fuel rail questions? 1 2 3

I'm debating on making a new fuel rail(I'm convinced my rail has a couple of microscopic leaks) for my EFI Z and have a question. 1. Since on the stock rail fuel goes to thru the FPR prior to going to the injectors and CSV, shouldn't the FPR be mounted on the front of the new rail? In looking at the rails built by some members, it appears the FPR is mounted on the firewall at the back of the aluminum rail. Am I just missing something regarding fluid dynamic's here? My idea is that if I mount an adjustable FPR to the front of the rail directly from the fuel hardline and then run the back of the rail to the fuel return line, I would better approximated what the stock rail i…

First question for anyone that knows: My son's 6 of '71 ('72) 240 is getting an R200 with a 3.9 ratio. When I went to service and make sure of the gear ratio, I found this: The main large ring gear is stamped with the 39:10 ID but what I don't get is the smaller internal gears; they're welded together. Is this a LS differential that has been "cured" of potential breakage? Secondly: I bought a T5 to replace the four speed. I think I should have bought a non Borg Warner five speed "Type B" instead, but I'm not sure. From what I've read through many a thread and blog in order to avoid sounding like a whiner who doesn't want to do the work, was that a T5 is better matched…

So i have been chasing a noise for a while now in my car. Along the way, discovered my diff was rather sloppy, opened it up, and found a spider gear spacer just hanging out in the housing. Never fully failed for me, but I'm sure it was a matter of time. At this point, I started to go nuts, because i could hear a ratchet noise still on accel and lift off. Put a jack under the diff, and started to lightly load and unload the diff. was able to replicate the noise over and over. Its coming from the mustache bar mount on the drivers side. When the diff shifts back, and up, as it would on accel, it makes the noise, and it can be felt only on that mount. Further inspection sh…

Well after reading again that there was a tag in the drivers side door jamb I went out to check again noticed there is an indent above the door latch mechanism but no tag after looking a pic I confirmed this is where its supposed to be. So that means it was removed likely during one of its repaints. It started out emerald green then ended up gold, then red, and which has now faded to some sort of awful blotchy pink, but ths another story. So I am left a great deal of curiosity on the matter, when was it born? I'm the kind of that once I know I'm gonna celebrate it's birthday and buy it parts that monthLOL so this is important to me. Is there anywhere else on the body I ca…

adjusted valves last weekend and the gasket tore a bit, so needed to go back in to replace it. we used the "cold" spec when adjusting, but the engine was still a little warm and i went back for a quick check while i was in there. got the engine right up to good & hot then got my feeler gauge handy. turns out 7 of the 12 were tight, so i spent 10 min. w/the crowsfoot and torque wrench and now she's all good. prior to the valve adjust i got some low compression readings, and was wondering about the condition of the cylinders. ordered an inexpensive wifi borescope online and it had just arrived, so i poked around inside the spark plug holes and took a few pictures. it…

Hi My stock 280Z ac compressor died. I had the car converted to R134 last year. It did not cool as well as the r12. The compressor died and I am thinking that maybe a newer technology compressor and receiver dryer is the way to go that was designed for R134. Is there a newer technology more efficient compressor and receiver dryer that someone might suggest I use from a newer car that will bolt in with no changes or maybe very minor changes? Thanks Fury Pilot
