i've done a bit of searching, but can't find anything definitive about safe revs for my '78 280. to be clear - this is a DD and i'm not drag racing or autoxing, so i'm not looking for the very last pony out of the engine, but i'm really not used to this motor at all (more familiar with old american iron) and i've been afraid to rev past 5500 because i have visions of something coming through my hood... after sorting through various fueling and electrical demons, the car is running fantastic (finally) it's really addictive to wind it up and send the rear end sideways (on a closed course, being driven by trained professionals only ) but i don't want to break it. i know t…

I purchased my 72 from the original owner's son in law. It had been repainted, but was pretty much unmolested. It has what appears to be a fiberglass OEM style valence, and headlight buckets. Are these typically after market or could they be OEM? I am just curious.

On an attempt to find some random parts, I hit up some local salvage yards in hopes of finding some Z's. After not finding anything at any of the big yards, I went out to this random place in the middle of nowhere. Now all the cars here are just scattered throughout the woods. I walked around for an hour or so and found these three, but the guy there said he knows there should be afew more. Even though I thought I was going to be murdered somewhere in the woods, I think I'm going to go back with a real camera for a shoot. Lots of really cool old cars rotting away in those woods.

I got my 72 out of storage this weekend and fired it up, taking it on a 300 mile drive. Everything is going along swell 150 miles in when in third gear, 35 mph up a slight grade it appears that #4 or #5 rod came out the bottom of the pan, breaking the block. There goes my 44K original miles numbers matching heritage right down the terlet. Made me sick. So now, I have to travel back with truck and trailer to haul it home. I have another L24 I can put in it, but it will never be the same. I know I am whining, I'm depressed. I won't get to tear it down for some time to see what happened as I just had rotator surgery and have one working arm. I can't imagine why it fail…

I want to replace the following parts in my 1972 240z: - Water Temperature Sender Kit with retainer nut -Water Pump -Fan Clutch with plastic blade -Fan Belt -Water Pump Bolt Kit I normally purchase my parts from Black Dragon Auto but after contacting them i have been informed their parts are aftermaket parts. My 1973 240Z has started stalling at inappropriate times and it's getting to be really dangerous. When first starting out, it will run fine for about 20 minutes and then when starting up from a red light, it will stall, usually in the middle of an intersection. If I grind the starter and use the choke, it will start but stall soon after again. It seems that starting out in first gear will usually cause a stall but if I quickly go into second gear, it may not stall. I'm an original owner [68,000 miles] and although it is my second car, I hesitate to use it at this time. Also, in addition to my fuel pump, I recently had an electrical pump installed to help get the fuel to t…

Dear Forums, I'm planning on putting in a '76 carbed L28 in my '77 280 (currently running an EFI L28) Is this an easy drop-n-go or do I need a new harness? What else would I need? I'm picking the engine up on Friday. I am not very car-savvy, as my 280 is my first car to own, so please be gentle with terminology Cheers!

As the subject says, I've got a trip coming up to Tokyo. I'll be there for about a week. Is there anything Z related that I should try to see or do? Are there any parts related stores? Tuner shops that are must see? Thanks in advance!

I have been getting lots of crud in the fuel filter requiring a change every several hundred miles. So after 40 years the tank needed cleaning. I downloaded the Z Tech Tips for tank removal from the atlanticz.ca website. Most of the tips are similar except on my late 260 there is no need to do anything inside the hatch. The day before the removal I shot PB Blaster on the tank strap bolts. Removing the two vent hoses from the rear of the tank was my most difficult task since there is so little room to work. I had to cut the larger old braided line off the tank connection. The filler line actually came off easily using the weight of the dropping tank to help slip the…

I've been looking into the possibility of picking up another S30. It would be nice to find a decent one locally here in Illinois, which is rare, but I did find this one on Craigslist. 1972 Datsun 240Z I went and looked at the car today. Overall the body was solid and free of rust. There were a few small rust bubbles around one fender, but not even detectible in the photos. Under the hood looked fine with no rust on the battery tray. The floor boards had been replaced, but I did not get a good look at the floorboards underneath. This is originally a Texas car so rust seemed minimal. The car ran like a SCALDED APE! It was way faster than I remember my previous 240Z being. A…
