I can confirm, unless the gas station has rigged their flow meters, that my 1972 240z will hold 15 gallons of gas (most likely a gallon in the filler neck) until the pump shuts off. I know this may not be news to anyone else, but I was always struggling with filling issues due to pinched/clog vent lines. I finally cleaned the mess up when I was doing the Wolf Creek CV swap and fixed all the issues. I added 5 gallons of gas via a can at home, when to the same pump 30 minutes later and added another 10 gallons of gas. I also finally re-calibrated my Speedhut programmable fuel gauge. I swapped senders 1.5 years ago and did not recalibrate due to the PITA it is draining a…

Hello! This is my 1st post so here's some questions for you guys in the know... I've been a Z fan since my parents bought their 1st Z, a 260Z in '75 when I was 10yrs old, then they bought a 280Z 2+2 in '76... I've had 3 Z's since then & the 1st was the 280 2+2 that was given to me by my parents in 1984, a '77 280z & '78 280z over the years but are now all gone since 2001.....Now, my 12yr old son is a Datsun Z fan and we're looking to get him one here in the next week or two and get her all done up and ready for when he's ready to drive.. I have a few options right now and I want to know which is the better route to go..... A 1972 240Z 4spd with rebuilt carbs, mas…

Anyone Close to St. Louis? How about Eldon. MO... {aka Lake of the Ozarks}? That's about 120 miles West of St. Louis. I think this has been discussed before - but can't find the thread.. Anyway... Bill Reagan - author of "How To Restore Your Z Car" - has a Project For Sale. HLS30 00201 Stripped and most of the body/metal work done. Complete Car - but completely disassembled. I belive the engine has already been overhauled. Bill thinks he has $10K worth of relatively rare parts - used and some new. He is moving - and has to clear out his storage area... $3999.00 takes everything - the Car and all the parts - bring at least a 20 ft. trailer.. Might be a heck of a deal f…

My 77 runs well except when restarting after it warms up. I can restart right away with no problem. If I wait 10 min or so it starts on one cylinder then two and if I start moving it will be running on all six in about 200 yards when accelerating. If I wait 30 min or so to restart there is no problem. I have no idea where to look. Any ideas or similar experience out there.

Hey guys, some of you guys might have seen my build thread on my 280. Cars about 85% done, I need to update the thread with some new pictures, but my computer is down and I'm having to use my tablet. Anyways, one thing that's holding me back is the small inlet on the gas tank is clogged, I'm assuming this is the return line since it is the smaller of the two. The tank was in pretty bad shape, a lot of rust on the inside, but I had it boiled and it cleaned everything up, except this one line. I've tried the speedo wire and drill trick with compressed air and carb cleaner, no luck. When I look through the sending unit hole I see the line runs into the internal filter…

Hi everyone, I've been looking for a Z in all California for several weeks already and finally bought one. It's not perfect but it was Christmas and I got seduced by that light blue metallic color. Biggest problem, and the biggest of all Zs in general, RUST! I've been talking to my local Z garage and read a ton of documentaion and I'm well aware of the effect of rust on Zs. The owner of the garage and a a couple threads on that forum were listing values of rust-free Zs sometimes well below the bar of 5000$ but after looking methodically in all the US for such cars I couldn't find any even close to that price without a major problem somewhere. Coming from a wet/salty r…

Hey guys, this is actually my first post here and just liked to give a little basic info first. I currently own a '78 280z and am located in SoCal. I recently just got the car back from Mike's Z Shop in Whittier (they do great work by the way and very friendly) after completing a transmission overhaul. This problem started occurring last night, a couple days after i got the car back so i don't think it has anything to do with that issue. So usually when i start my Z up I give it a little gas to ease the start up (also note that I am running triple webers) but last night as I did the same thing I got a loud chirping noise in return. I drove the car home fine and noticed th…

I noticed this pic in an old book I had (Petersen's Complete Book of Datsun). It did not have C pillar emblems, seemed to have a data collection box and wires to sensors in the back, and was on dirt next to a building. It reminded me of a photo location I had seen before so I did some digging to try and figure out where and what was going on. I think this is the same car and location....from one of the 1969 field testing runs: This looks like the same car with the data box in the back: Here it is again on the left (with, what appears to be the same box in the back) So what was in the back? ...and what about the defrost wires in the window in the top picture…

I never should have bought a rust belt car, but I am stubborn and I wanted a first generation z-car. Here's a little motivation for those of you facing a basket case like mine. I previously replaced the passenger floor pan and frame. Here's the same work on the driver's side.

Hi All, My baby has been setting outside since I bought her several years ago. She was in storage for 12 years prior to me getting her. I put somewhere where around 10 grand into her, counting initial $3000 I paid for her. Now she is starting to look the worse for weather wear. Rust in all the usual places. I had replaced all the struts, complete new master bushing kit, new windshield, the old one was pitted, Ztherapy carbs, balance tube, heat shield. Too many NOS parts to list here. I do have a folder full of everything I bought. New u-joints all the way around. My mind boggles at all of the parts I put on and under her. She only has around 68,000 original m…
