Previously, someone told me to look on the end of the cam on my L26 engine, for a 'c'. apparently this cam had some different characteristics that would effect performance levels. well i had the chance to adjust valve lash the other evening and while i was in there i investigated the stamping on the end of the cam. It is stamped 'B' or 'D'.(letter is very lightly stamped so it's hard to identify, but i'm pretty sure it's a 'B' anyone have info on what this cam is and how it performs in comparison to others? thanks for any help

So, my wife and I were at breakfast today at a place in Ventura CA. I had parked the 280 out front and I could see it from inside the restaurant. There was a group of guys sitting behind us and all of a sudden one of them said, Oh my there's one of those million dollar Japanese cars!" We started looking for the vehicle they were talking about. I didn't see anything that was worth a million bucks. Then another one of the guys said, you mean the Datsun sitting there. I hear this guy say, yes the one parked right there. I turned around and he was pointing at my 280! He went on to explain how one just sold for 1.2 million! (didn't catch where). And how "bitchin" those cars ar…

77Datz has my sympathy. We're only a couple of hours apart, maybe we should meet and compare. At any rate, I have some basic questions regarding my 75 280z, and was hoping the board might provide some advice. It might well be the same as offered to 77Datz, but I'll hope not. I am enclosing photos. My original questions: 1 - Can these be covered with the Bad Dog parts without removing the engine, transmission, etc.? 2 - Is this something any competent body shop or welding shop can do, or should I be looking for a specialist? 3 - Is there someone you would recommend in the upstate (Albany side) of New York or western Massachusetts? Thanks very much in advance for any l…

Was able to get a better look underneath my 77 280z today, I wasn't sure of how much frame rot there was when i bought it a few weeks ago. I'm not happy. The rear of the car is in better shape than the front, my sway bar bushing is basically hanging from the frame where it rotted away, there's a few holes here and there and rust just falls off the car when you touch any part of the rusted areas. The floor boards are in great shape, no rust there, but the two rails that run along the floor boards are rusty, at the front end they both have holes and rot. The underside of the car looks like it was coated in a thick, black paint. If it's rust preventing paint, it hasn't real…

Plenty more work before she ever gets done...mainly body work as far as time is concerned, so today I got bored trying to figure out what I was going to do with the grill, and figured I would just post of the mock up pic of most of the body parts on it. Hasn't been this close to being "together" for years. It won't end up being a show car, but a nice daily driver when I am done. Excuse the red fender...I was just too lazy to grab the original and had the extra one from the 240z I picked up. When I am done, it will have the 240z front end (I know plenty of work to get it close to right). And excuse the piece of wood holding up the bumper, still have to mod the original…

Anyone had any dealing with Dale Mfg. in Salem OR? I just sent off my spare harmonic balancer/crank pulley to be rebuilt, the one on my car I believe is slipping or has slipped. I painted the timing mark when I had the engine out and redid the timing chain, painted at zero degree's at TDC and it now shows 10 degree's at TDC, so I marked the pulley again with a mark on the lower half and it is now slightly off. I also think my timing chain is off a tooth and I know my oil pump dizzy is off all of which is why my car runs like crap!

Anyone else going to the Sport Import show next weekend at Carlisle? I was thinking that this would be a good opportunity to sell/swap parts which would normally be a pain in the butt because of shipping. Now, I'm not going to throw an engine block in the back of my Z, and I'm not bringing anything that doesn't have a recipient at the other end, but I've got some other cumbersome parts that could make the trip if necessary. For example, I've got a: a) Full dash cap. Center consoles (2) for fuel injected cars without the choke lever slot. Neither is perfect, but both usable. c) Parts off an early ZX motor - N47 head, N42 block. I'm not going to put the block in my c…

I was trying to remember a specific salvage yard in Tennessee or maybe Kentucky. All they have is Z stuff. I believe it was a couple at one time and his wife passed away severtal years ago. He had semi trailers full of stuff, doors etc. I can't remember what the name of it was or exactly where it was. I was hoping someone could help me with my failing memory. Trying to help some one else find a part... Charles

I have finally thrown my hands in the air and abandoned my attempts at a phased restoration. I just got tired of taking stuff off and putting it back on knowing in my head that I was just going to be taking it off again. It is also frustrating trying to work on stuff with a bunch of other crap in the way. Better to just take it apart and get on with it. This will be my build thread. I can't hope to duplicate the super-human efforts recently of Hardway and Grannyknot, but somebody might glean something useful from my efforts and maybe save another z! The subject: 1976 280z in driveable condition. I live in MD. It's a rust belt car in super condition, but there ar…

Hey all. I'm in the process of having my engine rebuilt, plus a few other things.I'm using the services of a place called SunWestMotorSports in Ventura,Calif. Dave, the mechanic and I were talking the other day and pointed towards 3 big metal shipping containers and told me they were filled with used parts collected over a period of 40 years. According to Dave, there are so many parts and such that they're not sure of everything they have. Might be a good place to check if you need something hard to find. Their phone number is..... (805) 644-9644....email is sunwestmotorsports.com, but I'm not sure if the web is set up yet. This place was just recently purchased from the ori…

Need a breaker plate for my 77 280 distributor and can't seem to locate one. I'm seeing it's possible they are discontinued. Anyone have any luck or know where I can find one? MSA, Zcarsource don't have them either. Thanks.
