I'd really like to drill out the rivets on the VIN plate on the driver's side door sill so I can make sure there's no rust back there, along with cleaning up the 10 layers of paint in that area, and then rivet it back on after the car is painted. But I seem to remember reading that there are legal issues with removing the VIN plate from a vehicle during restoration, and re-attaching it. Anyone have experience with this? I've seen lots of information on how to remove it and reattach it, but nothing related to the legalities of removing it and reattaching it later. Oh, and I live in NY (yes, I know my profile says NJ) if it makes a difference. Thanks guys!

really loud horn 1 2

I've tried the hella supertone horns and the dual air horns and people still don't react as they move over into my lane. Is it hopeless to think you can wake them up when they are that out of it or is there a louder (and still legal) horn out there that might penetrate their mental fog? Hi Everyone, I just finished watching "Safety Not Guaranteed" on Netflix. It's about a guy who runs an ad searching for a time travel companion and the girl reporter who answers the ad to do a story about him. It's a quirky comedy drama romance that was quite a lot of fun to watch. (I gave it 5 stars.) Watch Safety Not Guaranteed Online | Netflix If you go to the above link, you'll see the familiar rooftop/windshield of the car the guy drives -- a 1977 Sunburst Yellow (411), non-ZZZAP decal'ed 2+2, not in the best of shape, but with a lot of spunk. I enjoyed the movie for reasons other than the car, but the car certainly added to my enjoyment. The location was s…

Hi guys, Wondering if anyone knows if there's a stencil to use to paint DATSUN on the side fender stripe treatment, like this: Also (I'm sure this is asked a lot), is there consensus on best supplier to buy everything needed for a resto. Mine will be painted this summer and I want to buy all the goodies needed to put it together in the fall (seal kit, bushings, hoses, interior sets, etc). THANKS!

Hey guys, I've been looking at building a nice 240z for a long time now, been hunting for a while for one in decent shape. Not looking to do a full showcar resto (although it would be nice), just want it to get it back to driveable and rust free, no engine swaps, maybe a few minor engine mod's to enhance the sound/feel of the base car. A guy local to me is selling a '71 240z, and claims the car has 34k miles on the chassis, but was sitting in storage for 30 years (open air storage apparently.) He originally bought it off the first owner's son, and then let it sit in his yard for 2 years of rain and snow allowing the rust to build further, while waiting for a local shop…

I am in need of the 3mm nut that holds the grill together on a 71 240. I check with Fastenal and I can a box of 500 but what to do with the other 499 nuts. Plus these would not be gray either. So, I thought I would check if any one has grill they are parting out and see if they would be willing to part with either just the nut or nut and bolt even. Thanks in advance, Newtonhubcap

I decided to move my paint discussion to this part of the forums. I'm going to paint my Z next week. What are the colors of these Zs? They look like either 305 or 307 blue to me.

The UPS man arrived today with my new brake booster and 5-spd transmission. I'm dying to get to work but I am laid up. Monday I had foot surgery. So I can't drive, stand or walk except to use the bathroom. I am so bored! Hopefully, I'll be back at it next weekend.

I'm not sure if my gauge is reading right at 130-140 degrees. I have a 160 degree thermostat along with the new 3 row. I'm curious what others are running at that have the same radiator?

Gotta get rid of these parts, and as a mod pointed out to me earlier, I believe we can use this forum for last resort before the scrap yard, large collections, lot deals, etc. That said, I've got spare parts from my datsun and another donor 280zx I pulled parts from. I need them gone, and thus, will take reasonable and probably unreasonable offers. If you guys don't, most are headed to the trash. Most of the parts off the 280zx I never tested. I could if you really want me to.... What I've got: R180 diff. Dirty as can be and I believe it vibrated bad before parking. Needs rebuild. It's pulled. $40? $30? Exhaust manifold off L28 F54 block. Painted white b…

I have started other posts on this topic but now getting serious and would like some final input. Paint Scheme - I am looking at the Porsche 911 Atlas Grey Metallic paint color with two light silver racing strips. Just to add a little flare I am thinking about adding a thin orange strip on the inside of each of the white racing strips. Also painting calipers orange and small amount of orange on the rims. I have not really seen the Atlas Grey in person and am a little concerned that it may be darker than I realize. I have attached a photo of what I am looking to create minus the orange accents. Thoughts???? Rims and Tires - No clue here. Currently have 14's but thi…

I recently installed this upgrade that is currently on sale at Motorsport Auto. It's a beautiful aluminum radiator that is suppose to improve cooling. The only issue I have experienced upon installation was getting the stock fan shroud to line up correctly for mounting. The radiator has two clips that slightly stick out by the top mounting holes that interfere with the shroud, hence leaves a gap between the shroud and radiator. I had to saw the clips off for the shroud to fit as flush as possible. However, the holes did not line up accurately. The best solution I found was to start with the bottom screws (yes, at the very bottom of the shroud), as those are practically th…
