Side Seals
by fastd- 1 reply

i was wondering if i needed to go through the trouble of dropping the pan to take off the rear cap to replace side seals and main seal rather than just slide out the main seal and skip the sides. i did pull the pan mainly because i couldnt get the main seal off. good thing i did: the side seals that were in there didnt have the nails installed and tom monroes book says to use sealer on the cap in a couple of places. never could have done this properly without dropping the pan.

Gordon McSwain, a member of our local z car club, ZROC, has a modified 240z that has been chosen to face off against the Motor Trend/Nissan Performance Project 370Z in their 370z Challenge. We are all very proud of him and wish him the best this weekend. This is the Nissan Performance Facebook Page. We are hoping to keep everyone up to date on his adventure on our club Facebook group page.

Looking to replace the heater core in my 72Z. OEM - not avail, local auto stores selling reproductions - not avail. I did check eBay and the price is double what local stores charge (when in stock). So looking to save some green if possible. Any other ideas on where to acquire a new one? Thanks. David

I need to update my insurance and I am looking for some advice. I don't qualify for agreed value (antique car) insurance because my 240Z is my primary transportation. Therefore I think the best way to insure is to go with declared value insurance. The declared value policies that I have looked at from StateFarm and Progressive both state that the maximum payout is the lesser of the declared value and the actual cash value. The actual cash value will be determined by an adjuster after an accident. Therefore my insurance agent(s) have advised me to document the car well and consider getting an appraisal from a certified auto appraiser. Not the self appointed appraise…

Just wanted give a big Thank You to this forum for pointing me towards Hagerty Insurance. I learned about Hagerty on here a couple of months ago. My insurance renewal was due this week, and the insurance for my 1978 280Z went from $680/yr to $830/yr, all due to some rate restructuring. I signed up with Hagerty for $143/yr! Same coverage with no deductible, so a nice savings of almost $700/yr for me! I spoke with the underwriter, they only ask about miles driven when you first sign up, they don't monitor it. I don't put many miles on mine anyways, so no big deal. Though I mainly read and don't post often, I love this forum, thanks again!

My 240Z has a sunroof and I'm going to delete it. What's the current price range for a 240Z roof skin in good shape? Thanks

Clock redo 1 2

I read a lot of the threads on the Z clock repair and so I pulled out the clock and went to work. My clock was unfortunately toast, so I went back to looking at clock threads and decided to just replace the guts with a battery operated clock. I bought a Sharp clock from Wally World for $3.99 and a battery adapter from Radio Shack for $1.10. The swap was fairly easy even for someone as unskilled as me. I kept the hands from the Sharp including the second hand (I just liked the look of the second hand sweep). The Sharp clock had a short enough stem that it didn't need any trimming, I attached the clock to the Z clock backing plate with double sided tape and a couple of drop…

I have a large order (for me , anyway) pending with MSA. I was told I need a membership number to receive any discount. "Search" has not revealed an answer- or a number. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

I am sure this has been asked but not sure how to search for the answer without getting a thousand pages to dig through. Is there any way to prove or disprove a 240 came with a stick or an auto? If it were an auto and converted, are there an signs? something unhooked that shouldn't be or ? I'm trying to determine if a particular car now with a stick previously had an automatic. It is a 72 240. thanks guys!

I haven't had any luck finding a Z tool set in good to excellent condition. I need a lug wrench, jack handle and rod, tire stoppers, tool bag and lug nuts. Was this set used in any other Datsun of the era? Thanks, Fixitman
