Hello! I joined the site in 2006, but have pretty much only lurked and never posted. I have a 73 240 thats been a project for the last million years (being a broke college student is not conducive to restoring a car). I recently entered a contest to win 10k to restore it so I figured I'd finally introduce myself formally. Hopefully I could win the contest and kickstart this project. Win or not, this thing needs to see some progress. Right now its living in my friends backyard under a tarp but hopefully that will change soon! Here are some pictures of how it currently sits. Nice dent in the quarter - a neighbor kicked it when I had it out of the garage when I wa…

Last spring I threw 797 on EBay and it bid to $16,300 (no sale) This Fall tried it again ($15,100 I think and no sale). I was ready for a new adventure and to be honest wasn't enjoying driving the Z as much. Part of my "love loss" came from never finishing all the small stuff on my punch list, the harsh ride, and that #$%$# exhaust smell. Well, three weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and just get everything done, clear up the list and have the car close to 100%........It hurt my wallet but WOW what a difference. Now, it's literaly like a new car (ok, a 42 year old new car). The biggest difference came from all new struts, it rides so well and handles so much better. …

On a 1973 240z with the L28 motor and SU carbs. Just want to go electronic ignition aftermarket drop in without upsetting the tachometer. Since the car is essentially stock, not racing, Is there a best aftermarket drop in distributor? I'm doing a rebuild and want to put the distributor on before dropping the motor in.

OK, I have ordered some reproduction labels for my car and it seems that there are different opinions on the correct label content, background, etc.. :ermm:Norm Murphy after looking at photos of my car said that my under hood stickers were incorrect. I purchased a set from him along with one for inside of my right tool box lid. All three stickers are on either gold chrome or silver chrome:disappoin. I do not remember them being on this type of material. I seem to remember them being on a flat gold and flat silver background. The chrome look makes them hard to read. Which is correct? Content wise the sticker for my tool box from Norm like I said is chrome with black print …

Hi, I have been searching through my local craigslist for quite some time looking for a Datsun 240z. I came across this good looking 73 Z. The seller is asking $4500. My question is: Is this a reasonable price? This is the sellers description of the car: Pink slip in hand, 83k original miles, second owner I bought new round top ztherapy carbs that need to be tuned, on the car one month ago $1k New alternator, fuel pump, some console/shift knob accessories, other than that the car is all original Got the car back from Mike's Zshop in Whittier a couple days ago, car runs great now. $200 The fuel system/regular maintenance are up to date. No rust anywhere, car has al…

Found this in North East Washington. Don't know a thing about it but think that it was once in my home town and for sale here a couple of years ago. Somebody should love it and give it a home. http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/3487393760.html

Today at 9 in the morning i got my 4th z car. its just basically a parts car but still. anyways heres my question of the day, the previous owner rebuilt the motor, .030 over bore, stock compression, phase 1 cam, new timing chain, ported and polished head and intake, new oil pump, flushed radiator, and malery dual point dizzy. he says it cuts out mid range rpm, pops thru the carbs, fouls plugs, and lacks power. also says he has changed the jets, advanced curve in dizzy, checked cam timing with degree wheel and the motor still runs poorly. This is on a 73 240z with a e88 head. and it is running 32-36 dgv weber carbs. i heard these carbs weren't the best. On my 260z i h…

hi guys, now that the winter is here and i have time to tinker in the garage i was planning on starting this new thread. hopefully the process of me posting pics of my project will help keep my garage organised knowing that people are going to be looking. bought this car about 4 months ago, drove it a little bit but car needs a bunch of work and a good check-up. some of you folks suggested checking certain things immediately, so i've added them to my list also. starting at the rear of the car and moving forward is my plan so far. first major items would be, bushings and drop fuel tank to check gas lines. tonight i finished a good tune up process, another oil change…
