I'm in the process of re-finishing my engine components and cleaning up some over-spray in the bay itself. I would really like to see some what some of you guys have done with yours. I'm considering getting the valve cover and all front timing cover pieces, intake manifold and maybe the oil pan and exhaust header powder coated in a polished metal look. I've repainted the block to close to factory blue, but I'm not sure how good it would look with everything else assembled. Some of the sharpest looking bays I've stumbled across are silver or black blocks with body colored valve covers. I'll be posting pics as mine comes together.

Put the car on the rotisserie yesterday by myself. Fabricated it about 3 years ago. Rolls easily with one hand. Haven't tried to rotate it yet. Going to make some braces before the rear quarter panel replacement.Already replaced the frame rails, both floor pans, floor supports, inner fenders and battery tray area all with my own fabricated versions.Total spent on materials $400.So,to all you guys wanting to know if it can be done cheap? The answer is "yes" if you have the time and skills..Both of which you can't buy.Timeline is one year from this point and have it on the road.....Wish me luck.Roger

Hello, I am new to the forum and new to the Z community. I recently purchased a 1971 240z with an L24 and 4 speed manual, however the car is in poor condition as it has been sitting for years in a tarped off tent and never properly maintained and neglected. The moisture and heat of being in a closed off tent has wrecked thin metal and there is some holes in the floor from what I could see but the frame rails etc are still intact just need a good media blast/sandblast. So I am getting the car for a bargain and I am going to take it on as a project/restoration of sorts. Being as young as I am it may not be as nice as some of the members cars or as period correct but I am …

Just saw this today - http://www.datsunstore.com/ Apparently they're moving and have to get rid of some stuff. Says 30 cars must be sold. I thought they just sold parts. Worth a browse.

So I recently bought this Z (October of last year). Paid 925 bucks for the car, two giant tupperware containers full of parts (mostly ventilation hoses and some cam gears) and a 280 parts car of which the year is unknown. The previous owner claimed that the motor had been rebuilt 8000 miles ago and it ran quite well. It did in fact, run quite well. It came equipped with a set of homemade 6 into 1 headers, Bob Sharp Racing intake manifold along with the complimentary 390 cfm carb, misc ignition goodies, a close ratio gearbox out of younger 280zx and a pair of faux nismo bucket seats. I thought I was set. Of course upon closer inspection I began to realize that the car was…

Hi, New guy here from Jersey with a 71 240 I bought a few months ago, I'm the second owner. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help with. I’m far from a mechanic and haven’t wrenched on anything in years but I can still tell the difference between a hammer and screwdriver. I owned three 240’s and a 260 back in high school between 1977-79. I rebuilt one of the engines back then (new rings and bearings) and it even ran after I was done. I also vividly recall almost having my head taken off when changing the rear struts when a compressed spring shot out of the crank-type spring compressor. About the car...I bought it from CA and it has 146,000 miles runni…

September 13, 2012, marked the 40th anniversary of my ownership of my Z-Car. If someone told me when I first bought the car that I would have it for 40 years I would have said “you’re nutsâ€! Anyway, I was out of town on the 13th so no special drive or other activity with the Z on that day. Today, I was fishing at a local lake, snapped a quick photo of the car, and thought I’d share the anniversary with the board members. Most of the bio below was posted on earlier threads about “the story behind your Zâ€ but I’ve revised it to bring it up to date. I read the road test of the 240Z in the April 1970 issue of Road&Track magazine and recognized the car as …

I don't know how many forum members use Banzai Motorworks, but the products that Mike Mcginnis sells are unavailabe almost anywhere else. Not only that, Mike's prices are cheaper than other sources on most items because other sources actually buy from Mike and mark 'em up! Mike knows Z's in and out.......and we need to keep companies like Mike's in business. You do have to send a check before he ships, but that's a small price to pay to have access to hard to find parts.......where else are you going to find a blank ID plate, an early master vac sticker, and many, many more stickers and items that make Z restoration a lot easier?

Hey guys. I finally bit the bullet and bought new fuel injectors for my Z. I ended up replacing them earlier today. Took many pictures of what I've done but can't find the device that gets them off my camera, I'll post them later. Car seems to drive as it did before, with some odd running on restart which I had before. Jan

Just got back from Elkhart Lake last night for VSCDA's vintage racing weekend. Camped at the track, fought a bit of rain but had one of the best weekends of the season. An absolute blast and (shamefully) not that crowded. There were at least four Zs running (one BRE) but I was only able to meet one driver and his name eludes me right now, but a very cool guy (#84, a '72 240z in red and white, full roll cage and suspension mods but with stock drivetrain per SCCA, I believe). He ran strong all weekend but I don't see any results posted anywhere yet. There was also a red 240z, #57 with Celica wheels that was running very hard and strong (could only peep at the engine through…

Didn't sell last spring so lets try it again this fall.........if not, oh well. I'm sure I'll have sellers remorse, but other projects will follow. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Low-VIN-/110950059588?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item19d5238e44
