40 years ago today I purchased my car. Gee - seems like just yesterday, NOT! Too many miles on this body to feel like a 29 year old again. Although it did not start out to be a "forever" car, the memory of turning loose a beautiful '66 Mustang 2+2 way too soon has always been in my mind and I vowed to not repeat that mistake. Of course, if I had kept the Mustang, I probably would never have had the Z. Maybe things work out for the best! The car is getting a full restoration and just recently returned from the paint shop (that's the painter in the pic). Reassembly is underway, on the road again by summer is the goal. Jim

Since home is in Rustville USA I've only seen maybe one driving Z car in Fort Wayne. I would like to see one up close and maybe get a ride if someone is willing. Help push me over the edge. I really think owning a 240z would be fun but I am trying not to go gonzo until I get an upclose look and feel. Make sure the personality of the car is what I am looking for if that makes any sense. I may try contacting the INDY Z club if this attempt fails. Grant

Well, it's finally time to start working on my '76 280Z. It's been sitting for 10 years, and I've recently confirmed that there was at least a gallon or two of fuel in it at the time that it was parked. The tank is the first thing that I'm going to go after, but I have a question about it. I have an '81 280ZX that I use for parts on my '83. Would that tank fit the '76? If so, it seems like it would be easier to pull that tank, clean it out, and then just do a clean swap. What do you guys think? This is my first try at an S30, and I'm super excited to get it running! Thanks!

Do you use lead replacement fluid in your early Z ? Do you use Octane booster?

A lot of you know I have been working on my "rich" condition off and on with my 77 280. California has some tough smog laws! So after replacing, rebuilding, testing, cleaning, adjusting, rewiring, searching, trial and error, cursing (lots) she passed. I'm actually looking at the numbers now and have come to the conclusion that I can richen her up a little. The CO and HC readings are very low, too low for the engines sake as far as the CO goes. The smog tech said he has never seen numbers like these on a Z. So that made me feel pretty good. Thought you all would like to know. And thanks to those that offered help and ideas during the past 6 months.

I have to post up my new love for a TV show-BBC Top Gear. Now it doesn't take too much to interest me as far as shows concerning cars. This show however, has given me a show that I can watch with my son and wife-and they like it too!! My wife is not a car lover like me, but does appreciate a nice car. My son is into the exotics and mostly euro type cars. We all appreciate a crazy fun and the BBC Top Gear covers all that for us. It's pretty exciting for me to cuddle up with the wife and watch a car show-it's almost weird!! If you have never watched an episode, I invite you to give it a shot, it's pretty damn good entertainment in my book.

Hi, I am new here and looking for advice. Early Datsun Z's have always been some of my favorite cars and eventually I hope to buy one. Unfortunately, they are never listed for sale in my area and the last time I sat in or drove one was when I was a teenager. Can anyone tell me if the headroom and legroom are comfortable for a 6' 4" medium build guy with tall sitting height? I don't want to invest time and money on a long distance purchase and find out I don't fit.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6k4DML_u-s Background: Immediately before the car was parked 8 years ago, it was run without oil pressure for about 3/4 mile. Getting it running again is sort of a fact-finding mission before the full restoration commences. Replaced: Most rubber in engine bay, oil, coolant, fuel, new plugs, points, ZTherapy-rebuilt carbs, new fuel filter, thermostat, oil pressure sensor, battery, resealed (POR-15 kit) fuel tank, valves clearanced, new valve cover gasket, etc.

Hello all. I'm new to the vintage Z scene and now I'm hooked. I've been through various "transportation" phases including watercooled VW's, the custom Harley scene and mildly modding my Nissan Titan. I was searching for a project (thought I wanted a Corvette, yikes!) when I stumbled upon a Jalopnik tunnel video of a 240Z. Oh the sound! I researched a bit further and damn if the early Z cars aren't as timeless as any vintage Ferrari, Porsche or Euro exotic made. So I gotta have one! Anyway I found a 77 280Z about 20 miles away. New paint within a year (correct paint code white) as well as exhaust and brakes. Seller claims it's rust free and he used it and continues to use…

My two kids (boy, 8, and girl, 4) seriously cannot get enough of: A. The inspection panels next to the hood, and B. The sliding ashtray door in the center console. Something about "secret compartments" and little doors just fascinates them, I guess...

Hi all, I pulled the gas tank on my 240 today to replace a leaky fuel vapor hose on top of the tank though I could not get the clamp screw on the filler hose on the tank to turn without springing back to the original position as I tried to turn it with vise grips. Also I could not remove the three screws holding the filler tube lower flange on with the tank in the way. This meant the filler tube was holding the tank to the car since this early 1970 model has the lower rubber flange molded to the filler tube. In direct violation of Murphy's law as I pulled on the tank it fell off of the filler tube where the tank clamp was solving the problem. I notice the early fil…
