I found the best way to deal with the push-pull cables cables on our Z's is to remove: 1. the inner steel cable from the sheath/casing 2. wash the inner steel cable 3. wipe the inner steel cable with a scotch brite pad 4. lubricate the inner steel cable 5. use penetrating oil in can and flush the sheath using a straw attachment (there are better methods in the posts below). The results are very nice. Heater Control and Side Vent cables: Depending on the type, you can often remove the plastic sheath/casing. In my experience, some of the metal cable gets crusty and/ or very sticky over the years. A wipe with a solvent and a scotch brite pad will bring them back to a smo…

I was not going to start a thread on this but changed my mind as the information may help those who are thinking of buying a Z just to do some minor clean-ups and flip it. What I thought would be a quick 3 month ‘clean-up’ and sale has now turned into a well over 5 month ‘Refreshtoration’. I don’t really call it a restoration as I am not doing a complete 100% strip of the body and undercarriage. And my original intention was just a simple re-fresh. So, I am now in the middle of these two with what I am calling a ‘Refreshtoration’. Part of the problem in cleaning up a vehicle is you can’t just strip a car, put a nice paint job on it, put it back tog…

So I am getting ready to put my gas tank back on and pulled it from storage. I have been looking at information on this site about which hoses go where and realized that I am missing several hoses from the tank. My Z is an early model and didn't have the hose at the small end and didn't have the evaporation tank. There is the hose fitting on the far side and was expecting to see the hose fitting on the near side but there isn't one. Is this something common in the early cars? I had the tank sealed a few years ago but don't remember exactly what it looked like then. It has been sitting in a spare bedroom waiting until this day when the car is finally being rebuilt. …

So big weekend and I will start with this picture: The gf (Marsha) expressed interest in owning a Z car after our last club bbq and wanted a turbo car. We decided since I already had the #1905, I would keep it and refund the deposit on the car since it had been 4 months and the buyer had not picked up the car and closed the deal. I also have a 82 zxt with 63,000 miles……perfect project. So while getting the car ready to be moved to the body shop, Will expressed extreme interest in #1905. He had been looking for a new shell for a project because his car was shot. I knew of a 260z that had been bought by a friend over the weekend and it was offered to me before he o…

Any reason why I should splurge on the $80 Beck/Arnley fan clutch vs. the $35 versions that are available at the local parts house or on rock auto ? My fan clutch locked up, so I'll need to replace it. Nothing like hearing a big fan running at 3000 rpms to suck down your mpg and steal that power.

Hello, I am attempting to build a defroster of sorts for my race car. I am never going to lose a race again because I can't see. I have a squirrel cage fan unit from a stock 240Z and noticed a little electrified wire coil on the exit side of the fan. Does anyone know what this is? Could it aid in pre-heating/drying the air? Hello all, I just picked up a 1971 240Z that has been sitting for several years and am in the slow and patient process of getting her in good enough shape to turn the key and see what I get. I have been following directions and suggestions from other discussions and posts I have found. The other day I took off the drain plug to drain the gas tank but nothing came out. So, I poured about a half gallon in to let some fuel drain through the plug to see if any gunk or anything came out with it. The gas came out clean but I did bend and stick a paperclip around as it was coming out to scrape at the tank and when I did this the fuel turned a very slightly brown color and a …

Update- the car was found this morning. Stripped. Missing seats, emblems, visors, center console, all wiring harnesses cut plus some gratuitous spray paint. No body damage. Probably totaled. Anyone want to buy it for parts? I know this is a longshot but... Last evening, between 4:15 and 7:45 p.m. my 1976 280Z was stolen. It had been parked near 10th and Market, downtown San Diego. The car is bronze with copper interior, excellent condition, California License #3SMZ256. The license frame has Gators on top and Florida on the bottom. It may already be in Mexico, but if anyone out there sees a car matching this description, please contact the San Diego Police Departm…
