Just wanted to see who was here in Texas and had a classic Z. Does anyone know of clubs or events that take place here? I know there's the Z Club of Texas, but they're more or less aimed at newer Z cars I hear. I'm in the Dallas area hopefully we can get some more classics on the road around here!

I found this project car that was kept under tarps in a not so nice part of Oakland CA. It had a Datsun 280ZX drive train with a custom intake with down draft webers. The swap was done 25 years ago. There was very little rust which was repaired and painted a nice BRG. I swapped the tired Z motor with a fresh one and put on some stock SU's. I had the 5speed trans rebuilt. Starts great, idles fine. Has petronix disti module that I had installed on the old motor and ran fine. I replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, checked timing, swapped out the wires, so I really don't think it is ignition related. The SU's are new to the motor (and me). A great guy that races Datsun an…

so, the CA DMV informed me that i might be able to get around all of this without the help (or lack thereof) from any of the previous owners. it turns out that title is still in the name of the credit union that gave the 2nd owner the loan. they have let me know that is paid in full and sent the CA DMV a "lien satisfied" letter, which will put the title in a sort of limbo.. if the right forms are filled and the right dmv agent pulls the right levers, the title can be put directly in my name, skipping both the 2nd and 3rd owners.. it seems like each different dmv agent has a different opinion on how to resolve this thing, some seem extremely complicated, this last one seem…

Just had to share this. I'm working on a friend's 72 at the moment. Several issues have cropped up after a recent "restoration" (I use the term lightly...) and I was asked to resolve them. The list is long, but many of the problems I have found are just down right shocking. This is the story of the latest discovery that is my favorite so far.... Yesterday I took the SU's and intake off to do a repair on a busted exhaust manifold down-pipe stud causing a leak. No biggy. I'm leaning over the fender at one point laboriously removing a nut a little at time, and my eyes start to wander over the exposed engine block. I spot what looks like a black battery cable. "Now what is…

Hello Im new to this site and i own a 73 240z .I have had the car for 20 years but left It in the garage for just about 15 years. Now I found intrest in fixing some of the issues with the car from sitting so long. I first started replacing vent hoses and fuel line hoses also replaced fuel gage sending unit finished doing all this then drove it to the gas station to fill it up to see if the gage worked correctly but the needle on the gage with a full tank only goes just past the half tank mark. so my question is how hard is it to replace or fix this gage ? Also spent the last few hours tuning the the round top carbs then went to test them out on the road as i went out it w…

hey all, i got screwed on the purchase of a 1977 280Z. it's a very nice car, 41,000 orig miles, california car. pretty rust free overall, running well, all kinds of good aspects. the problem is i never received the title, yes i was a bit too trustworthy, and a bit naive. my fault. at any rate nothing has worked to get this original title for this car, which is in the 2nd owners name, i am the 4th owner. the guy who sold it to me is off the face of the earth now. i do know that the title has a lien on it from that 2nd owner. i am curious if anyone has any advice on this matter. more directly i am interested in acquiring another cheap 280Z that has a clean title and all in…

My buddy & I went for a 220 mile joyride through the Sacra-tomato delta last Saturday and got quite a few bugs on the windshield. The curving levee roads were fairly smooth and mostly empty. We even found a nice long straight where I let the little Z stretch her legs… One of the highlights was the Z went for a ride on the J-Mack Ferry. It operates on Steamboat Slough between Ryer Island in Solano County and Grand Island in Sacramento County While moving along at about 40 MPH, a honey bee flew into the cabin and smacked me in square in the forehead. He landed in my lap, stunned. Before he could wake-up enough to sting me, I stopped, opened the door and p…

I've been looking for a platform to build into a track/street car for the past few months and I finally found one. It's a 1971 2 owner 240Z. Very solid body, zero rust as far as I can tell so far. It's been resprayed but I don't think it's had any accident damage. The engine has not run since 1989 so it's going to take some work to get her back on the road. I put ATF in the cylinders and was able to move the crank a few degrees by hand so I think it's not seized. I pulled the valve cover and everything looks very good. The gas tank is full of crud so I am looking for someone to boil the tank. Does anyone know of a shop in the Houston area that can refurbish …
