I've been looking for a platform to build into a track/street car for the past few months and I finally found one. It's a 1971 2 owner 240Z. Very solid body, zero rust as far as I can tell so far. It's been resprayed but I don't think it's had any accident damage. The engine has not run since 1989 so it's going to take some work to get her back on the road. I put ATF in the cylinders and was able to move the crank a few degrees by hand so I think it's not seized. I pulled the valve cover and everything looks very good. The gas tank is full of crud so I am looking for someone to boil the tank. Does anyone know of a shop in the Houston area that can refurbish …

So I've pulled my engine and today I plan on giving it a deep cleaning, the car sat for around 8 years until I purchased it in May. I haven't started it yet I've simply gone straight in to remove the engine and clean everything up thoroughly and replace everything that needs it. Now since the engine is out is there anything that I should do to, maintenance/refreshment wise?

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a mostly restored 77 280z. I have read a few posts, and elsewhere as well, that rust can be a problem. Car has no rust now as it was a California car, but I would be driving it maybe 10 miles a day, 8 months out of the year in rain. I have a carport so it would not sit in the rain. So what do you folks think, will the climate here kill the car?

I've looked at the diagrams showing what each part is for the Z's but I cannot find what this little pipe is. As you can see in the picture it pretty rusted, and what you can't see is on the other side it's actually crushed in.. Anyhow this definitely needs replacing! Edit: this is the thermostat housing if it isn't obvious sorry.

Here are a couple of pics of my Z project which started out as a simple refresh and different paint. It has since evolved into something more! Pics are of the engine before and after with all new rubber lines, injectors rebuilt with new O rings, intake and exhaust bead blasted, new hose clamps etc. etc. The other pic is the body ready for primer. The PO had a gorgeous paint job with PURPLE flames which were well done, but don't fit on a Z IMO, so the new color will be Daytona yellow with black racing stripes on the driver side. All the rubber in the suspension has been replaced, new struts and brakes. I know the block is not Datsun Blue, but I don't really care it still …

I am completely rebuilding a 77 280Z coupe and am replacing the front and rear struts and springs with Tokico HP gas struts and performance springs. My question is what oil to use in the outer casing. The Datsun service manual says to use Nissan genuine shock absorber oil “NISSAN GENUINE STRUT OIL or equivalent. So what do I use in its stead.

I know some people were looking for one... so here is one I just found on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-fairlady-1973-datsun-240-Z-fairlady-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3cbaf6a49dQQitemZ260834763933QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks Very high price at $25,000 Reserve Not Met. But not an unreasonable since in Japan they do trade hands for this much. I am not affiliated with the seller at all.

I ordered some caliper brackets off these guys and paid via the internet. I asked first if they will work on my car and then sent another email asking if they had shipped yet, and if not when they will. I have not heard anything back. Are these guys flakes? Anyone ever ordered something from them? I realize side business' are just that and response times can be slow. http://store.zraceproducts.com/brakes.php
