Ok, a little over-dramatic title, but none the less I was pretty shocked upon seeing this... So I removed my water pump and found this inside of it.. Yes the rust is expected, however the weird jelly? Is this common, or at least on an old sitting pump like this. There was more of this in the water pump cavity on the engine of course, so I scraped and wiped it out, I'm going to shine a flashlight down the cooling passage and see if there's more down there. On a side note now I want to flush out the coolant passages on the block again, any special ways of doing this or should I just run a hose to it and flush with water?

edit - that should be non non-op... When I moved to So Cal from Martinez I parked the Z in my dad's garage and it's been there ever since, non-op. My dad passed away last year and I'm getting ready to sell the house and need to decide what to do with the car, problem being that I don't want to pay 15 years of DMV fees for the non-op. The car looked and ran fair, but at this point I'm about ready to give it to an auto wrecker just to be rid of it. any suggestions? thanks Mike

Ok so I finally got myself an engine stand and I go to remove the pressure plate, cover, and flywheel. Right after removing the pressure plate cover and pressure plate I reference my book ("How to Rebuild Your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine") and realize I was supposed to punch-mark the position of the pressure plate cover compared to the flywheel. Ooops :/ How important is this and is there any way I can remedy this? On a better note this is the engine from my car that was sleeping for eight years. I've read a lot of stories about waking old cars and the engines being possibly seized and people having to push the car with it in gear to get the crank to turn. Well turns out whe…

Which front spoiler or air dam has the most downforce for a stock s30. Read the report in Car And Driver, which is about 15 yrs old. Is the BRE spook still the best. That's what I have on my 260.

background story, this 73 240z has been on craigslist for the past 2 years. I've seen it there when looking for engine parts but never bothered to go check it out until today. The car had a tree fall on it, right above the rear hatch near the driver side triangle, it looks like the sheet metal separated from itself inside the car, i think it is un fixable because of where the damage is. it appears the area above hatch has caved in on the top of the car, and the hatch will not open more than 6'' I have taken a few photographs to share with you all. The absolute sad part about all of this, is the interior is immaculate, it has an uncacked dash, 71k original miles. The…

On my car, there's a redundant oil gauge. This gauge uses actual oil to detect pressure, and I'm looking to remove this. However, once removed, I'll need an engine block plug, or oil sending unit plug. Does anyone happen to know the proper threading and length for the plug? I do not want to take any risks here, and certainly dont want to mess up the threads and send alloy bits into the block!! Any help appreciated!

Displayed my car at Burlingame's "Cars-in -the-Park" today. There were about 240 cars of all types, with the majority being 70's muscle and vintage 1930's to 1960's. I was parked next to an swe-ee-et 1963 split window corvette. The corvette owner & I were joking that one could buy 4, (or more), 240Z's like mine for the cost of his classic vette. I was very surprised to find my humble little Z garnered maybe 3X the interest than the corvette! I must have heard 40 stories of people's fond recollections of riding or driving one years before. Also received a number of compliments on restoring a classic Z. It clearly resonated with many of the people who attend…

I am looking for those impossible to find rubber parts for the 1973 bumpers. My bumpers are good, but devoid of rubber, both front and rear. Thanks for looking in that junk box..

As you can see I was mainly interested in modified 1st gen. There were a ton of original 240, 260 280 models on display which is where the crowd was hovering so I didn't get many good pix of them. I hate taking photos of people taking photos. A handfull of 240s were golden. Others please post!

Hi everyone, I just took out my transmission and re-installed another one. But since doing so, I've fogotten where the wires go! I want to be extra safe so as to not short anything out. Can anyone identify which wires go to the starter, and which go to the transmission? Pictures will help big time! I am assuming the negative battery cable hooks directly to the starter... but the remainder I'm not so sure! EDIT: this is on an early build 240z
