I was installing my driver side rear wheel cylinder yesterday and I had an accident. A small one but my gosh it makes your heart sink so low. I am a very careful and meticulous mechanic. Not sure why I was in a hurry, but I turned around from my work bench and a 10mm gear wrench slipped from hand and I counted the milliseconds as it tumbled end over end toward my pristine hood. My car rock chips here and there, it is not a concourse by any means, but it is a very clean driver. As that wrench hit my hood, man images flashed through my head. The Hindenburg burning, the first A-bomb tested in the desert, the first time I saw a pontiac Aztek. The sound a metal wrench mak…

I'm resigned to the fact that the motor needs to be rebuilt. The car is a blast to drive and deserves a fresh motor and some new syncro's in the trans. The motor has N42 block / N47 head motor and is fed by dual 32/36 webers, pertronix disti. I met with a machine shop that has done a few small block Fords for me and have always done a great job. First question. Is this a decent motor to rebuild? I am reasonably happy with the performance of the current motor, but if there is an easy way to pick ups some performance, without trading reliability, I'm open to that. Here is a list (from my notes) talking to them about what they would do to rebuild the motor. Their c…

Hey guys, What is the differance between GVRW (what does that stand for by the way) and Curb weight? I have a 240Z that was manufactured 5/72 My door plate say's that my GVRW is 2875lbs but according to everything I have read and can find, my Z should weight 2355Lbs. So what the hell is going on? Why would my door plate have the weight of a 75-78 280Z? I should just go weigh the car and find out what it really is. Anyone have any experiance with this?

Somewhere is a very upset PO of this car. I really feel sorry for the fella but life has it's bad moments. It was auctioned off by the Morale/Rec/Welfare office of the local Naval Base. Rumoured it was parked at the auto hobby shop. Maybe the owner had to ship out or was stationed elsewhere and couldn't retrieve the car. It will be taken good care of by it's new owner if that is any consolation. I got into a bidding war with a knucklehead and paid more than I had intended. I still got a good deal. It was setup as a track car. Built-in rollcage (less the front bars to firewall), Panasport wheels (like new), coilovers, camber plates up front, Wilwood disc's, heavy sway bars…

I am waiting on my pictures to be approved by the admin so I can't post a pic with this question. Does anyone have a 280z with the front fender removed that would be willing to take a few measurements for me? I am fabbing a patch panel for the area where the cowl drain exits and the two L brackets for attaching the plastic inner fender are welded on. I need to know some measurements for where to drill the hole for the drain tube and where to attach the L brackets. I measured before I cut the old one off but it turned out that my rocker panel was installed too low when it was previously replaced. This throws off my measurements. Is there anyone out there that might b…

I found this car when I was 17. I am now 31. My dad and I tried to buy it every year up until 2 years ago (when his collection was complete and I got my 510) but the old man who owned it didn't want to sell. Looks like he finally passed away and I don't have the funds and my dad's collection is complete. This car is in terrific shape!!! The interior is amazing. The gentleman never ever drove it in the rain. My dad and I can confirm that the odometer was replaced as the owner showed us details. The paint was also done as stated back in the late 70's/early 80's but I cannot recall why. All in all this is a perfect driver or an amazing candidate for restoration. The interio…

I have decided to get new floorpans from Zedfindings. Charlie has replied that he could make the pans w/o the holes for a premium. I will not know how much the extra cost would be since he is on vacation until April 1st. BTW, he sells the 8 plugs plus the 2 in the hatch area for $2.52 each. My question to everyone is: Do I really need these holes in my new pans? Seems to me that they would be an area for rusting again. No way that this car would ever be a concourse type - it was not when new! I do plan on driving the car in the rain and if I do get water in the car for some reason, I will attend to it quickly - not like the daily driver it was in the snow and salt in Co…

Here is a link to website that keeps a constantly updated list of E0 (Ethanol-free gasoline) stations in the United States. While most of us run E10 (it's by far the most widely available gas), I know that many of those would prefer to run E0. Pure-gas.org - Ethanol-free gasoline locations I don't want to get into an argument over ethanol (E0/10/15/85) as a fuel, I merely wanted to bring this resource to everyone's attention. Please don't use this thread to wizz and moan about your position on the issue. I have no affiliation with this website, and it is non-commercial.
