So my '76 280z needs a new fuel pump. Im not exactly sure if its a mechanical or electrical fuel pump, or how to tell the difference. I was hoping I could get some info on how to distinguish between the two, and where I might be able to get a good replacement fuel pump. John

In trying to chase down the elusive source of fumes I pulled of the breather hose from the fuel filler hose. There is a piece of plasteic pipe that is about two inches in length that attaches both together. Mine is cracked and that may account for some of the fumes. Any body have any idea what I can use as a replacement? I am going to check hardware stores to see if they have anything close. Does anyone think that I could apply some type of coating to the inside of that pipe that would seal it? So on my way to work this morning I am thinking of how to solve this issue of fumes, etc. I am playing over in my head all that I have learned here from reading all the thre…

I picked up a NOS gas tank with factory stickers and markings. The part number is 17201-E4100 Main difference that I can see compared to my 260Z is that this one does NOT have the tube on the driver side for the long evaporator hose. I know that the return line circumference might be different, but I am running triple Webers and do not think that matters. I plan on using Beandip's method of getting rid of the evaporator tank. So, this tube that is missing does not need to be mucked with which is a good thing. Also, I think that I saw some threads that early 240's did not have this tube. I searched but I could not find this info. Is this tank worth more to somebod…

Was in a coffee shop in San Francisco this weekend and picked-up a copy of Classic Motorsports magazine. Classic Z's are in two articles. One is "35 Cars You Must Drive". The 240Z is included in the list with some pretty nice cars, along with some comments by Pete Brock. From memory it's something like: "The datsun pulls like a Triumph, revs like a Jag and has the looks of a Ferrari." The second short article is "The Mitty salutes BRE". Kinda cool our old cars are getting some press!

I have disassembled my 240's front suspension in order to replace ball joints, bearings, and bushings and to bead blast and paint each component. Does anyone have any knowledge of what color each component should be painted? I am not looking for a 100% historically correct job. Just one that looks good and makes since. I was thinking this: rotors - black (high temp) calipers - these will be new so maybe just spray with clear to protect control arms - black (maybe Eastwood's Chassis Black) sway bar and hoop brackets - Chassis Black compression rods - Chassis Black ball joints - new so clear, same as calipers dust shields - Chassis Black strut housings - Chassis Black s…

Does anyone have experience with replacing the frame rails in the engine compartment? I have already made and replaced the rocker frame rails, floor pans, under-floor frame channels and ran these back to the rear cross supports, large parts of the firewall and foot box areas all from 14 gauge steel, as well as several inner fender patches under the battery and master cylinder areas. The next step would be to make and replace the forward frame rails and then reconnect to the foot box area and under-floor channels. This is a big job. Is this normal or do most people just cover these to reinforce them. My frame has several rust holes up near the radiator support and I p…

Thought I'd share some pictures of this 280Z that was at the Route 66 Casino annual car show. Being one that is not too fond of major customization on a Z, I think this one is very well done. All metal, no fiberglass in this work, according to the builder.

....from the Green Z I found parked underneath a Douglas Fir tree over a year and a half ago....what a great project this has been. 1975 280Z retaining original Emerald Green color. I think the white highlights look pretty good on her. Summertime Cruizin!

Hi, I live in the Southern California area and was wondering if anyone knows of a shop with vintage parts for my 240? I have a couple of cars, and I have found a shop just like this for my rx7, and volkswagon. Basically the shop should consist of vintage parts such as original steering wheels, rim center pieces, shift knobs, whatever datsun.. If you know of a place like this, or close that I can physically go to please shoot a reply. Really appreciated.
